Rooms not fantastic and a little dated but price was reasonable and location in Little Italy is great.

My husband and I stayed at the Porto Vista, in San Diego, as we wanted to be in the heart of the Little Italy and experience the “olde world charm”. The hotel was however, modern and upbeat, clean and friendly. Front staff were charming and helpful, pointing out places nearby to walk to and offering trips to the famous zoo, if we wanted them and giving directions to shops and nearby areas to explore. Valet parking, whilst charged for, was a good value per day and the valets were spot on. Rooms were bright and clean (we made use of previous comments and asked for an updated room) with all amenities to make you comfortable and entertained. Wasn’t a great fan of the large 60’s style “art work” but that didn’t detract from the overall ambience I was thrilled with the rooftop yoga, relaxing and yet, exciting, with the view below of the harbor. Shuttle service was a plus and, at $5 per trip, not too bad for price The bar/restaurant was a pleasant surprise with gorgeous glass lamps, colored neon at the harbor counter and that great view! Food was plentiful, but somewhat limited for those of us that don’t eat meat or fish, but was enjoyed by everyone. Wine selection could be better, but all in all, every meal was delicious. Would definitely stay again!

Very close to Little Italy shops, bars, and restaurants. Comfortable and quiet though not fancy rooms. A lot less expensive than the Gaslamp for Comicon but not inexpensive. Our rate included full breakfast. Close to trolley. Recommend for downtown fun and convenience.

Not a bad place to stay. Essentially a motel renovated with some upscale decorations and flair. Room was small, functional and clean (except the ac air filter). Restuarant was ok, they swept the floor around me during breakfast. Upscale menu was ok but limited. Valets were good. Deskstaff acceptable. They don't tell you on the website but valet parking is mandatory and $22 a day as of Nov 2011. Great location if you want to walk to Little Italy or even the bay/Spanish Landing. To far to walk to Gaslamp through downtown and bums sleeping on sidewalk.

I had a very good time at the hotel. It was a little loud on Sat. night. The Glass Door has a great view of the harbor. The prices were on the high side but the food was terrific. I would diffidently stay there again.

First, the hotel does not advertise that parking is $22.00 a day charged to the room. The rooms are average, just watch for the insects. Finally, don't expect the staff to be more than average on a good day.

This was my second time staying at the Porto Vista. It's a cute, little hotel in Little Italy and is a pretty good deal considering the price and location. (Close to freeways/trolley/airport and in a walking neighborhood with plenty of dining, shopping, entertainment options.) Rooms are small, but clean. Comfy beds. TV was a little old and janky, as were the shower and toilet. And $22 for daily parking is quite steep. Otherwise, it's a nice place and I would recommend to other travelers on a budget.

in town visiting with family. The bed sheets smelled very strong with bleach & husband had an asthma attack during the night from the fumes & I had a headache when I woke up from very little sleep. The remote control for the TV wasn't working.

This hotel is just a block from Little Italy where there are some of the best Italian restaurants I've been in in a long time. Just a few blocks away is the water front. The San Diego Maritime Museum is there and there are 7 ships you can visit for $14. At the hotel, the service was good and all personnel were courteous. The only negative is not advertised anywhere I looked. Parking is $22.00 per DAY! in their underground lot. You can park on the street for free, IF you can find a single empty space, which I did not see in the 4 days we spent there. So, you are basically stuck paying them their outrageous parking fees. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable stay.

Loved the proximity of Little Italy, Gas Lamp, and Old Town. No beautiful graphic on walls in room as seen on website. MISSING SMOKE DETECTOR called and had one installed after 2 attempts No remote for T.V., but also only 4 clear channels. Peek a boo bathroom patio sider you could see into bath, but could not see out. Parking $22.00 per day STAFF COULN'T BE BOTHERED. Carried own luggage to and from room. Definitely not the Euopean experience that they eluded this Hotel to have ALSO NO CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST IF YOU BOOKED THRU [...]!

Initial impressions of the hotel were pretty good minus the 22 dollars for the valet service. The bathroom was kind of small and the elevator took forever so we ended up taking the stairs all the time. If you book through a third party and not through the hotel we found out that you don't get the free breakfast with the hotel. Then, we had the valet service back our car into another and broke one of our taillights, which they did replace and did give us valet for free. But, was just a hassle that we ended up having to deal with. Our keycards kept not working and we had to replace them about 5 times.

We planned our trip for San Diego so we could visit Sea World and the USS Midway. We recently purchased beach cruisers so we got this hotel based on its location. It was great! We were able to ride our bikes to the Midway the day we arrived. The next day we stopped at Old Town and had a meal before we headed to Sea World. I loved how everything was minutes away from this hotel. When we returned from Sea World we rode our bikes to a restaurant in Little Italy which was walking distance from the hotel. The last day we were in San Diego we rode our bikes to Gaslamp District. As for the room, it was nice but a little small compared to other hotels. We were hardly in the room so it didn't really matter to us. Overall this trip was well planned and we got to see and do a lot!

The location in Little Italy was fantastic! We had easy access to a lot of things to do. The central location allowed us to get to other outside-of-Little-Italy locations easily. The room was clean and served an SSS purpose. Our remote control ceased to work (even with a change of batteries), the valet parking was out of sorts when it got busy (very nice people, though), our fruit at the breakfast was overripe/nasty (we were given half-off on our bill). Workers, including a valet, were in a hallway chatting while his co-worker was getting his butt kicked. Time for the manager/owner to put his/her foot down and expect more from the workers.

The staff was excellent. Location (near Little Italy & downtown trolly) was very good. The rooms were clean, updated and comfortable. The bar was very nice & friendly too (Happy Hour starts at noon). The walls were a little thin (we paid $20 extra for the larger room, so I think we had a better room location) but we didn't hear any noise that kept us up. The room was a bit expensive and valet parking was $18/night (we could not find street parking)
