Plantation Island Resort Mamanuca Islands Guest Reviews (9)
Our accommodation was quite roomy and the air conditioning worked well. However because there was no glass in the windows we had to keep the shutters closed to make sure the air con worked at its best as it was very hot. As we like to snorkel we were disappointed that the snorkelling was not very good near the shore. We did do 2 boat trips every day to snorkel and most of those were lovely. The food was very ordinary and they had trouble with gluten free even though they assured me that they catered for special diets. The gluten free bread was cakey and there were no desserts at the buffet on any night that I could eat. The staff were obviously exhausted and not very happy but this is probably because they had been worked too hard after cleaning up from the cyclone. They need to provide more $15 trips for snorkelling and take them to several places not just the sandbar. Also not much for people to do if they did not have children there.

Plantation Island Resort was exactly what I expected after reading the reviews on the internet. It is a tired resort but if one gets a good discounted deal it is a pleasant location, especially for families with kids. and comfortable. The more expensive resorts either side offer up market restaurants and bars which provides an alternative for adults.

This is our second visit to Plantation and we will be going back again. The addition of the Black Coral al la carte restaurant improves the food options if you dont like the buffet style menu. They could do with more free kayaks etc but other than that it is great destination for a family holiday.

My wife and I went to plantation island from 10/3-14/3/2012. We paid over AU$530 for one bedroom for 4 nights. The room is quite empty and dated. There were 2 very noisy fans on the ceiling and air con wasn't working properly, and by the last day it died completly. But for the last day, the manager gave us 100FJD as compensation which made us feel a bit better. With other reviews, people say food wasn't good. I disagree. We tried all 3 fish dishes, and kingfish dish for 3 nights, but every time they came with a different set up which surprised us. They were very tasty. But the buffet lunch wasn't very good. The flame restrauant was a highlight. About AUD$5 expensive, much better service and envoirment, food is very tasty too. Wife wanted to drink a coconut, wasn't availabe every afternoon.(We got up late.) Activity wasn't that much for adults. Wife wanted go to a island hopping tour. but they left 20mins early which made wife very upset as we leaving on the following day. At night, the crab racing and dancing were very impressive. No live coral around the island, but see lots fishes.

Plantation is a great Island and a wonderful place to take the family or as a couple. Plenty of places to eat, great water activities and fantastic snorkelling right at your door. We stayed in a beachfront bure, which was lovely. Extremely clean and the grounds are very well kept too. Staff are very friendly and nothing is a problem. We will be back.
