The Legazpi City Rundown ... Read more »
Legazpi City is located in the peninsular Bicol region on Luzon, which is the chief island of the Philippines. It is the administrative centre for the region, but as boring as that sounds, you can find many attractions within Legazpi City. While it is named after a Spanish Conquistador, the city has a history well beyond the days of the Spanish invasion. The Cagsawa Ruins are a testament to that fact. Legazpi City is also home to the ancient but still active Mayon Volcano, which is a primary natural attraction in Luzon. Many travellers also come to this area for the gorgeous beaches. This is why the Misibis Resort was built there. The Catanduanes and Sorsogon beaches are particularly popular for their pristine white sand, and nearby Donsul is a yearly migration stop for whale sharks. If you are fond of nature and wildlife, you will also want to visit Albay Park and Wildlife, which is a great area for a picnic and watching Legazpi City’s abundant fauna. Directly behind the park is Ligñon Hill, which offers an observation station to view Mayon Volcano as well as a base for the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
When To Go
Legazpi City has a tropical rainforest climate, which makes the city quite hot and humid year-round. It is also subject to large amounts of rainfall, so pack rain gear no matter when you visit. Temperatures hardly deviate in Legazpi City during the year, making it difficult to distinguish one season from another. The typical highs are around 29-32°C (84-90°F) while the lows range from 22 to 24°C (72-75°F) year-round. November and December are the months with the most rainfall during the year, averaging about 47-48 cm (18.5-18.9 inches) per month. The spring months of March through May are the driest, receiving about 15-16 cm (5.9-6.3 inches) of rainfall on average. While that is still quite wet, it is the best time to visit Legazpi City unless you really love torrential rains.

Getting There
Most people who fly to the Philippines will land at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, which is the busiest in the nation. Luzon has a few other airports for budget carriers, and the Lagazpi City domestic airport offers daily flights for those who need to fly directly into the city. You can also travel to Legazpi City by bus from Manila through several different carriers. Once you are in town you can hire a ‘jeepney’ to get around. While cities like Manila have a lot of taxi services, the jeepneys are the main public transit in smaller cities. Many visitors rent tricycles or scooters to travel in town as well. There are no trains in the Philippines as the railways have become derelict.
