Laoag has a fairly pleasant climate with wet and dry seasons rather than four distinct seasons. Most visitors prefer to go during the driest time, which is from November to April. During the rest of the year, Laoag can receive 10-20 cm (3.9-7.9 in) of rain per month. Most of the annual rainfall is the result of monsoons during the wet months, which are characterized by torrential rains that can spawn dangerous cyclones. May is typically the warmest month, with highs over 30°C (86°F), while January is the coldest time with lows in the mid-20s C (mid-70s F). Getting There
If you are travelling by air to Laoag. you can first fly into Manila’s Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Hong Kong International Airport or Taiwan’s Kaohsiung International Airport, and then take a transfer flight to Laoag International Airport. There are daily flights available to Laoag from Manila, while the other two airports only offer flights on certain days of the week. You can also take a bus from Manila or Baguio through several different companies. A bus trip from Manila to Ilocos Norte will usually take around eight hours, but it is a lovely way to see the countryside of the Philippines. If you like sea travel, you can catch a boat or ferry at the port of San Fernando or Currimao. You can get around the local area cheaply by rental vehicle, ‘jeepneys’, motorbike or horse-drawn buggy. - - -
