Pestana Rio Atlantica Hotel

My wife and I booked this at short notice as a stopover en-route home from a conference. We'd originally thought of somewhere in Ipanema or Leblon, but our first choices were all fully booked, so the Pestana on the Copacabana was something of a late call, and as such viewed with a little trepidation. We needn't have worried. The staff were really great; all courteous, all helpful and many fluent in several languages. Our room was on the 12th floor and hence recently re-furbished; altho' not enormous, it was very well appointed & very comfortable and the traffic noise was largely inaudible over the muted crash of the waves on the beach:-) The restaurant was better than expected - often a weakness when hotels have a semi-captive audience - the food was very good and the prices not outrageous, and the bar menu was pretty good if you'd over-indulged at lunchtime. Rio is generally expensive, but this was comparatively good value and we'd use this hotel again (on the expectation that all floors would have been refurbished to the standard we experienced). Only downside was the price of the internet - come on guys, this is the 21st century - if cheap hotels can do free WiFi, so can you!
