This was the second time I stayed at the Helmsley Park Lane and again it was good .This time my daughter was with me and we both enjoyed the room, service and especially the view from the Park restaurant and the evenings in Harry's New York Bar.More central you can not find and the staff is vrendly.

We've always had a junior suite facing Central Park which was the case this time too. However the rate had jumped 50% over the previous year and there was no renovation of the rooms which could have justified the exorbatent price increase.

The Helmsley Park Lane is a great hotel. Nice rooms, fabulous locations, but the dinner room, which should be the crown jewel of the hotel is terrible. Breakfast is extremely limited with none of the niceties you would normally expect. Go elsewhere. The dinner menu is also very poor. Sao stay there, just eat elsewhere.

i paid for 2 rooms on the basis that this was a 4 star hotel having a 50% discount promotion on. I was taken for a ride. The bathroom was NOT clean. I found 3 short black hairs in the bath, a scum mark around the bath and the soap holder section had remnants of the soap in it. It is very disgusting to charge clients $500 per night ($250 with discount) and not even bother to clean the bathroom!. When I told the staff about this, they sent someone to clean the room at 12.15AM and the smell of cleaning products gave me a headache as it wafted into the main bedroom. Also internet is NOT FREE - the hotel charges $5 for use of the Internet (can't recall the time, I think around 20 minutes). When I went to use the business centre there was a job interview taking place. I felt sorry for the man being interviewed in a public place and left. Location is good next to Central Park and staff and mostly polite and helpful but I would not recommend. Foyer and restaurant are impressive looking but the rooms are dated. I stayed at a 3 star in Washington DC which was superior and less than a 1/4 of the price. I feel like i have been ripped off.

This is a well-located hotel on Central Park South, but it needs up-dating and is short on staffing. Everyone who works there is nice, but the under-staffing makes for long waits--a hour for a table for breakfast(?!) on both mornings I stayed there. One doorman in the wintertime handling baggage, front door, taxis, etc.-- it just can't be done properly like this. The place itself has a bare bones look that is not due to a minimalist modern vision; rather, it has an empty lobby devoid of character, amenities or much assistance. The rooms too need upgrading. Bathrooms don't seem up to the standards of a luxury hotel.

Well, you can't get a better location than this one! Right across the street from Central Park. The staff was very friendly and were very helpful throughout our 2 day stay. As for the room itself, it was very nice, however the decor is ever so slightly dated. The bathroom could use an upgrade, however everything works fine and the bath products are super! I would have given 4 or 5 stars for cleanliness, however the maid missed a piece of bread near the window left by the previous guests, so I can only give it a 3. Overall, a great experience! Not totally unreasonable price considering the location.

Great views if you have a park view room. The interior is very dated, bathrooms are motel style. All clean yet it needs updating

This place was great, wonderful location, fantastic view,! Mostly a very nice staff although some of them did put on airs which was a slightly annoying yet amusing at the same time.... Rooms could use a makeover, its old school elegant, and a little worn around the edges, but very clean, and no complaints...We had a great time and even stayed an extra night!

Very helpful staff. Great location to see NYC at Christmas. Most sites within walking distance. If needed subway nearby.

We booked this hotel for the location on Central Park for a one night stay to enjoy Christmas in New York. We arrived early (9am) and checked in and we were told that our room with 2 double beds would be ready in a couple of hours. The lobby was beautifully decorated. We returned at 4:30 and we were offered an upgrade for an additional $50, which we declined. The clerk told us it would be another 45 min. wait for our room. I explained that we were tired and he offered us 1 double bed and a rollaway for my 12 year old daughter along breakfast in the morning. The room was clean, beautiful with a comfortable bed and crisp white sheets. Unfortunately, the rollaway bed never arrived. After we returned back to the room at 11:15pm, my husband went back down to the lobby to inquire about the bed. Another phone call and 45 min. later a bed arrived- a box spring with a mattress pad and sheets- and no apologies. We had breakfast in the hotel the next morning- again, a beautiful room, beautifully decorated. The continental breakfast was pathetic (people were walking out) and the service was poor- we never saw our waiter after we placed our order. We served ourselves coffee and juice from the waiter's station. We were very disappointed. This hotel is in a perfect location. It was clean and beautiful. It is really too bad that it is managed so poorly.

nice hotel with a great location on central park south. City view means you are looking at another building not the park

From the moment we arrived we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and welcoming at all times and we particularly liked the waiters in the restaurant. Breakfast was excellent and the view out onto Central Park at breakfast time was superb The location was just right for seeing all the sights. Highly recommended

Located on Central Park South this hotel was a perfect location for marathon weekend however the room furnishings were dated and the chairs were rickety. The carpet was dirty and the shower didn't drain. All showers were taken in ankle deep water, yuck! In addition, WIFI wasn't free. This hotel needs to get into the 21st century.

We were fortunate to book a room on one of the executive floors. Rooms on these floors have been recently renovated and are huge by New York City standards. The room was clean and very comfortable. Staff at the hotel were very thoughtful. After a full day of New York City activities, there was a plate of cookies waiting for us in the room upon our return in the evening. A nice touch! We had breakfast daily in the restaurant on the second floor. The setting was beautiful with tables overlooking Central Park South and Central Park itself. The location of the Park Lane cannot be beat. It's close to everything in Midtown and literally steps away from the subway. Also, its location just across the street from Central Park gives its rooms simply stunning views. It was great to wake up in the morning to views of the sun rising over Central Park. An unforgettable experience.

our room was very comfortable, clean and spacious. our view of Central Park and beyond was superb. We were able to spend a few hours in the Park before boarding our ship for our next destination. We would stay at this hotel again without hesitation.

arrived at 10.30 pm to find one bed looking fresh and clean but had been slept in and covered up, with dirty bed sheets. Not a happy welcome. Was jusyt offered a new room. No upgrade and breakfast. Manager thought this was no big deal. Would never stay there again. Only the location was good.

Overall, our experience was not bad, but not great either. The room was a bit aged, but generally clean except in the corners and behind some of the furniture where dust and dirt were visible. We had lots of closet space and hangers, and the a/c worked well. Nice flat screen TV on the wall. Also, the blinds blocked out the light in the morning allowing us to sleep in when we wanted. While operational, the toilet needed fixing because it ran the whole time we stayed. It would have been nice to have a coffee maker in the room, considering the price of the room. Central Park is right across the street which was great, and there is a subway entrance 50 yards from the hotel entrance, allowing us to get to just about anywhere in the city, fairly easily. Workout center was good and there are lots of deli's etc to eat breakfast at nearby. As with any big city hotel, we had noise from work on the street below some nights, which woke us up. So, window noise insulation could have been better. For being in Manhattan, the overall value was good.
