This is absolutely one of the best locations in the city. The rooms are cleans, beds comfortable and the staff ok.

It was a good experience overall. Once you cross the $200 mark I feel you should be getting excellent attention to detail. Here are the flaws that prevented me from rating this hotel higher: - Checked in 6:30 pm Saturday evening. There was one person working at the desk, and there was a wait. - Door keys didn't work (and other people on line were waiting to resolve the same issue). No apology offered. - Found dirty washcloth over shower curtain. Stray hairs on floor. -No hair dryer in the room. - Wifi were pay-per-computer and expensive. - Walls were thin. Drunken guests in hall eventually subdued by hotel mgmt. Could hear other guests coughing etc. The location was great and it's a nice big old school hotel; there are a lot of weddings etc. so the noise issue may be a constant. If you want a good fallback hotel this is it.

I stayed 2 days here and had a wonderful time. The Holiday Tea was elegant, the staff very attentive and the location perfect for Muni or BART to get around town.

Perfect location, but the hotel facilities are disappointed. The worst experience was you woke up in the midnight by an incredilly loud noise when your nabour was taking a shower. when he/she turned off the water, it gave you a sound of explosion. Believe me, I'm not exaggering! I just coundn't figure out what made that unusual sound. The other thing I want to mention is that we had a room for two, but only one bottle of complementary water was provided everyday.

I love how it is historic and yet still remains a contender with any modern hotel. Gorgeous! I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

Extremely nice interior, clean and quiet. The main dining hall is absolutely breathtaking. The front desk staff and the concierge will bend over backward to help you. I will definately stay here again

Sunday Brunch at the Courtyard was fantastic, albeit the $68 price tag- but it was all worth it. And cocktails at the Maxwell Bar with front view of THE painting was very dignified and classy. I would do it all over again - if I get an upgrade, I plan to stay at the Presidential Suite next time.

We were able to check in very early, which was essential since we had a lot to get done in our first day in town. A bit of a trek to the room, since the hotel is so large, but it was large, comfortable and well-appointed. I would have liked in-room coffee (in the morning coffee service was set-up in the lobby). Very good bathroom with a first-rate shower. I knew the hotel's location would be excellent, and the staff was very helpful.

Beautiful historic hotel, great location. But no extra effort is made by the staff to make the stay more collegial. Small details such as super-expensive WiFi and no coffee/tea in the rooms are annoying

Excellent Hotel in great location. Ideal for shopping at Union Square, but handy for all touristic attractions. Beds were large and comfortable. Bottled water was complimentary. Concierge services were excellent. All the staff we came in contact with was excellent. I would absolutely stay there again. Don't forget to bring your swimming gear for the indoor pool!

Very convenient location to commute everywhere, spacious, clean, airy room - had a king deluxe Market Street view - polite and helpful staff. Food a bit steep - to be expected at a 5-star hotel - but not a problem, as there are loads of restaurants for breakfast and other meals within a 300-meter radius. Will dafinitely stay again.

This hotel exceeded our expectations. The location was great - central to all major areas of San Francisco and close to restaurants, transport and shopping (which was fabulous). The room was large and beautifully decorated and dining facilities were spectacular. We would definitely stay there again.
