O'keefe Plaza Hotel New Orleans Downtown Guest Reviews

Room kinda small, but great location. Walls are a little thin, heard crying baby all night. I felt it needed a little something more for that price. Plus charged me a fee for checking in early when the room was ready.

Not plush and air conditioner smelled musty but a good deal nonetheless. Can't beat the location if you are there for a saints game.

Staff and location are great. Room cleanliness needs some work. Also, shower knob broken so no hot water. Didn't go to New Orleans to stay inside, so for the price and convenience to attractions, it worked for me.

Though architecturally more akin to your standard interstate motel, the O'Keefe Plaza is situated near but not adjacent to pretty much all the major destinations in New Orleans. This makes it a good choice for trips with multiple purposes. Going to a conference but want to visit the WWII Museum and the French Quarter? Perfect. This place is cheap and within walking distance of all three, not to mention the CBD, Superdome, and the trolley line into the Garden District. (Though the hippest part of the city--Frenchmen St to Bywater--is on the far side of the French Quarter, which is a fair but doable walk.) The Convention Center, our main destination, is not super close, but we valued the proximity to the Quarter (only about 5 blocks) and the museum. If you're only going for one purpose, you can find closer, and certainly nicer, but maybe not cheaper. The surrounding neighborhood is essentially skyscrapers and parking garages of the Central Business District; busy in the day but fairly deserted at night. We felt comfortable enough walking through it at night a number of times (better than Canal St, in my opinion) but some people might be put off. The hotel itself gives off a bit of a bad-neighborhood vibe, with all sorts of odd signs and restrictions, though the fabric of the place itself is nice enough, and we never encountered any problems. The staff is, well, minimal. Be prepared to wait for help at the front desk, because there will be only one person working an apparently none-too-streamlined system. The staff doesn't have a hospitality-industry attitude--more like a DMV one. But they get the job done eventually. This is perhaps the price for the low cost of lodging. Our room was minimal and smallish, but clean and acceptable. A few things weren't in the best repair, but nothing serious. The bathroom is about 10 square feet, and almost European-feeling in its compactness. I did not object, but it is unusual. The hotel does have its own (limited) parking lot, with rates (unlike other hotels in the area) as good or better than public parking. This is quite a nice feature of this hotel. If you value the hotel experience, maybe not the best place--and you'll need to pay for the upgrade. If you just want a decent place to sleep in a good place for a good price, it's a good pick. I'd go back under the same circumstances--and probably will.

This was a nice, clean place that's close to everything in the French Quarter. The parking was super cheap and the staff friendly.
