First, this hotel was a great value for an all inclusive, but you get what you pay for. There were many restaurant options (many of them buffet style, though), and several pools to choose from. There is a lot of wildlife on the resort, and its proximity to parks can't be beat. Mayan ruins on the premise are pretty interesting as well. The rooms are average at best, although a bit inconsistent. Both rooms rented by my party included a very large king bed and a small tv. Rooms were cleaned everyday, and the minibar was replenished daily as well. However, it seemed the hotel was poorly prepared to deal with the number of guest, as we did not get bath cloths four of the seven days we were there, and ran out of toilet paper our last day. The pools and beach were both nice, well maintained and included waitresses/waiters who took drink orders ever so often. Both had plenty of seating and a lot of options regarding location and amount of shade, which was wonderful. The beach bar could get crowded, and the bartenders could be a little unfriendly, but the swim-up pool bar was great, and the bartender was great. There is no room service, so you have to go to restaurants for meals. The breakfast and lunch restaurants are buffet style only, and it seemed at times that while there was a lot to choose from, it did not change from day to day. We thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant by the pool. The staff there was friendly and was quick with drink orders and refills. The dinner restaurants provide table service and a variety of food options. The steakhouse was delicious, far and away our favorite. The service was, at times, an issue. At the Asian-inspired restaurant we had to ask repeatedly before our drinks we be refilled, and we never received some of the food ordered. The dinner restaurant that did not require a reservation, pizza/tacos was pretty awesome. The food was delicious and came out relatively quickly. We particularly enjoyed the waiter/manager who was personable and quick with orders and refills. There are a number of bars on site, but the keep very limited hours. There is a variety of nice liquor to choose from, but only two beer choices. Major complaints: First, the hotel is open to the elements and had marble flooring. It rained the first three days we were there and the floors flooded and became very slippery. The staff works hard to squeegee it off, but it is still quite slick and a lot of people fell while we were there, two of us included. Walking around could be perilous in wet weather. Second, the hotel is open to vendors, including excursion/outing vendors who travel around the resort. The people from Barracuda harassed us repeatedly and relentlessly about taking a party boat or whale shark cruise. We just wanted to hang out at the pool or the beach in peace, and that was not respected at times.

The service was fantastic, the resort was beautiful, there was no shortage of good excursions. The only draw back was the uncomfortable beds, and a lack of lotion in the room to help with peeling sunburns.

This was my third stay at this hotel and I have to say that the setting is beautiful ie. the property. I was a little let down with the quality of the buffet food and selection over the last two stays, but overall it still as good or better then most. The nightly entertaiment is exceptional. The pools fantastic. The staff was exceedingly friendly and accomidating. In Short for a relexing getaway at a reasonable cost you cant go wrong with the Occidental Grand in Xcarat.

My aunt and i booked this vacation a week before going. After reading many reviews i decided to book with the Occidental Grand Xcaret. We stayed for 6 days 5 nights. We had a BLAST!! Hotel: The hotel is located inside the Ecological park Xcaret. So the grounds have PLENTY of vegitation on the walk ways. They bring different animal from the park to take photos with, and if they didn't of this it would not matter because there are plenty cute critters you can catch just roaming around the hotel grounds. The hotel walk ways were kept very clean. There were always people walking around picking up empty cups, sweeping, and making sure you were comfortable. There are numerous pools, a swim up bar and a bar with swings as stools. which i thought was cool. There is also a adult are by the beach on the cliff side :) Its really nice when you just want to fall asleep on the beach in peace. The beach is not a real beach it s a lagoon, the water would be to rough to swim if the lagoon was not there. It definitely does the job. for swimming and snorkeling. If you don't go to the beach earl yon a anise day it will be hard to find a beach chair. People tend to throw their towel on the chair which stink if people leave and don't come back for hours. THis happens more at main fun club pool. At the beach people are usually sun bathing in their chair or briefly away for a quick swim. Location: the resort is about 45 minutes from the airport. If you plan on going off the resort plan for transportation because the resort about 10minute driving to playacar (shopping), 20mins to tulum and about 2-3 hours to Chitzen Ruins. Food: El Pescado and La haciendo has great . We personally loved the seafood restaurant because it was right on the beach, service was perfect and the main dishes were too good, you'll love every bite. They also serve breakfast and lunch buffets at the seafood restaurant. Which is convienient if you were like me and spent the whole time at the beach La Haciendo -> the staff is entertaining, funny and efficient. We had the best time at this restaurant. Armando is great! he speaks english well, loves his job and is quick to accommodate you. D'Oriental- the was a beautiful restaurant. The service was not that great ( compared to some of the other restaurants) and the food so OK. they can defiantly improve on the main dishes at this restaurant. On a good not. The spring rolls were great and the dessert was AMAZING! FYI: you get a certain amount of reservations for these restaurants at night we stayed 5 nights which means 3 reservations. we didn't know this and used our reservations the first three night. hahah BUT if you are nice to the locals and the waiters they may be accommodating to you. ;-) and if they are...tip them well :-D La carte which is open in between meals until 6pm. The food was good. Simple things like pizza, fries, beans, spagetti, chips and dip, fruits, soup bread, etc. La Buffet is open all day fro breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have a large variety of food so no worries. The only CONS i would give for the buffets it that there is roughly the same types of food there everyday for breakfast and lunch. Dinner has theme nights. And the bread and pastries tend to attract nats/fruit flies....so maybe the hotel needs to find a way to fix that because i never at the bread/pastries because of this even tho they looked fresh and delicious. The fruit also was not always top notch. I eat ALOT of fruits and Veggies so when i say a watermelon that wasn't ripe yet that was put out, i was disappointed. Bars: Mexico is not modest with their liquor. go to the swing bar where Juan is the bar tender. Have the "Juan special" if not he always has a good concoction, to make you feel great. There are also people walking around on the beach and by the fun pool from the beach bar so you never have to get up to get a drink, alcoholic or no alcoholic. Rooms: The bed was somewhat firm but i didn't mind! My aunt did but they easily an

Generally a nice place & of pretty good value, with good food & a comfortable room. However, there was no internet in the room as listed, nor did the Grayline transport allow any free calls to the USA as listed. Trying to use their long distance (phone card) phones was a pain & their internet cost $5.00 US for 30 minutes. The beach was very small & you had to be there before 8am to get a chair. Overall, I think that the beautiful beaches in Cancun would be a better option. Security was tight at the hotels & because they were each "all inclusive", you had to pay quite alot, if you wanted to go to any other hotel to visit....hence being stuck at your hotel...& having to take a Taxi wherever you wanted to go. I wouldn't go back again....that's for sure.

We had a fantastic time! This is the perfect resort for family with small children. Our children loved the resort! It is conveniently located, it is a ten minute walk to Xcarete.....a must see (awsome place)! Explore is next door (another exciting place to visit)! Make sure you visit 5th Avenue in Playa Del Carmen, it is a 15 minute cab drive. The staff was very friendly, and went out of their way to accomodate you with any type of service you need. We were overall very pleased, and we are already planning to got back next year!

Friendly staff service, except when we arived we had to wait 4 hours for our hotel tobe ready. We also had water leaking from our ceiling for a few days. We didn't make too big of a fuss considering we spent very little time in our room, except to sleep and shower.

Great location: You have the beach, walking distance to Xcaret park, convenient to archeological sites, and lots of green. Nice swimming pools, friendly staff, and fun activities. The beach is small, bur the calm water and the tropical fish make it very nice for bathing. Heads up: During the trip you'll probably get invitations to time share presentations, but they say it's just resort marketing. :)

The hotel is kind of luxurious. They do treat you like royalty but you must pay the price. Some of the staff at the lobby (behind the desk) are clueless about costumer service and when I called them about a problem they hung up on me. I was shocked at the ridicule prices of things. If you want to brew coffee in your room you must pay for it, as well as local calls made by them. The bellboys are the best and they are very friendly and helpful. The pool and beach area are amazing and very relaxing.

the place is just amazing, friendly staff and a lot to do without going out, it has several restaurants, bars, disco, theather etc etc, everything you need is there, besides the location its great, five minutes walk from xcaret, has its own entrance to the park and the taxi to playa del carmen olny costs 8 dollars. the rooms don´t have anything fancy, they are you could say average but you don´t spend much time in them anyway, wonderfull place, higly recommended
