Occidental Grand Cozumel Resort - All Inclusive Guest Reviews
Stayed from Dec. 16 through Dec. 23. with my husband, and the Occidental Grand far exceeded our expectations. All of the staff that we encountered were friendly, courteous and always greeted us with an "Hola!" or "Buenas Dias!"...that includes the maintenance men who were busy making improvements to the walkways and the bridge. We were checked into the hotel promptly and efficiently, allowing us to make the most of every minute of our vacation. Our room was large, clean and very accomodating. The shower was amazing with fantastic water pressure! My husband is a big coffee drinker and the housekeeper gave us extra coffee and water each day to meet his desires, plus kept the refrigerator stocked with ample water and beverages. The beds were not as hard as we expected, but rather quite comfortable and the pillows were nice and fluffy. We slept like babies! The food was ample and we always found something that we liked at the buffets. In the morning, freshly-made omelettes were available, as well as an incredible amount of breakfast foods including waffles, hotcakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and hash browns, to mention only a couple of items. Lunch was by the beach, and was also abundant with freshly grilled hamburgers and hot dogs, as well as the buffet fare. Dinner was different each night with different themes including Italian, Caribbean, Yucatan and Oriental. We tried one specialty restaurant, La Sonora Steakhouse and my husband loved his steak. I ordered chicken and it was very well-prepared. I didn't care for the taco salad, but was impressed overall. The beach was clean and there was plenty of seating. Snorkeled right off of the beach and got to see two barracudas, trumpetfish, lobster, stingrays, starfish and many other beautiful and colorful fish. Went snorkeling out to the reefs with Dive Palancar and had a fantastic time. We were so impressed with the Occidental Grand that we plan on returning in May and have suggested this resort to many of our friends. The only con to this whole trip would be the construction, but even that wasn't much of a 'con' per se, as it was for the greater good of the resort.

I was just down for a few days to finish my scuba certification, but I had a very positive experience at the Grand. No, it is not a 4 or 5 star hotel by “Vegas” standards. Remember this is a hotel on the beach in Mexico. As such, and with such expectations, staying at the Grand is a very good experience. The food is good, but we’re not talking gourmet dining. Again, we’re on the beach in Mexico. Overall, the room was clean, the mini bar stocked and the food good. Count in the Dive Palancar experience (I can’t recommend Alfonso enough, he is tops!) and you have a very good time for not a lot of money.

TERRIBLE FOOD! Just returned from Cozumel. The Occidental Grand is a nice resort with a great layout. Great staff, beautiful beach and lots of wildlife. HOWEVER, the food is downright nasty! There is a good restaurant on the beach just one door down called Albertos. All other restaurants are a 20 min/$25 cab ride into town. If you're set on booking this resort, plan on eating off the resort. Our family will never be back.

Well, we booked this hotel for 5 nights over Thanksgiving break. We picked it deliberately because it has the only real sandy beach in the area- all the others have sand on the beach section where you sit, but as soon as you hit the water you are directly onto rock and coral reef- not fun on the feet at all! So we were definitely disappointed when on arrival we were told that they were having maintenance issues and could not accommodate us, so they put us in the hotel next door- which was the Iberostar- it was a nice hotel, but the rocks in the ocean really spoiled it for us. Also, we had booked a Grand Concierge option at the Occidental, which they did not offer at the Iberostar, so we felt we had been cheated out of our money for that. They told us to contact our travel agent for a refund for that part- surely they should given us some kind of credit instead- it isn't the fault of the travel agent. Any way- we still had a nice time. The guy at reception was nice enough and very apologetic. The location was peaceful. For the other parts of the rating I put average, as I did not get a chance to experience them so I just went with neutral.

An incredible bargain--a 4 1/2 Star hotel at "regular" prices. Excellent beach, fabulous architecture and huge rooms. Located 10 minutes from all the really great southern dive sites(Horseshoe, etc) with an excellent dive operation (Dive Palancar). All inclusive with three fine restaurants plus a pizza bar and pool/beach lunch restaurant. Wonderful attitude from all the staff. We've been 5 times and will go again--and again.
