Occidental Grand Aruba Resort All Inclusive Guest Reviews
The hotel appears to be very plush on the website (which is misleading) but it isn't as "grand" as they try to make it seem. The rooms are very decent but there is no "ocean view" for 97% of the rooms in the hotel. They consider it "half-ocean view", whatever that means. The pool area is very beautiful if you can get past the slew of iguanas running around. The staff was fairly pleasant aside from the ones who spend their days begging you to sit through a timeshare presentation. The best restaurant in the all inclusive package was the Desire. This all inclusive experience is a good one. Lots of food with many choices. Beach front is short walk from hotel. Large pool and small whirlpool next to restaurants. Bar on beach. Swim up bar at one edge of pool. Weather is generally fantastic. Entertainment provided most evenings.

This was my second time staying here and was shocked that some things had changed this time around. Unsure if I'll be returning next year due to the cut backs.

The trip overall was great! Food was fantastic, location was great, the beach and water sports where great. The customer service was excellent. The room that we had was a bit noisy, needed a little more cleanliness in the bathroom too much mildew in shower.

We were very disappointed with our trip this time. When we arrived we were advised that they overbooked and we had to stay at the Hyatt next door and walk back and forth for the food and restaurants. While they did give us a complimentary trip for the inconvenience, the service at the Occidental was underpar AND unexcusable and the free trip does not make up for the treatment we received (or failed to receive). When we arrived and tied to make reservations for dinner we were told tehy were booked and had to eat the buffett for 3 nights. The buffet food was undesirable. Other places I stayed the buffet was always pleasing, but not here. Then we had a manager help to get us reservations at the restaurants and when we showed up at the time we were advised, they did not have our reservations. Additionally, the hostess at the Japanese restaurant was down out rude. So to be said we did not get to eat at the restaurants we wanted to due to staff errors. Then on 11/16th they conducted a power test and had the power out at the hotel for the full day and only gave the customers 1 day notice. We did not get notice at all since they forgot we were staying at the Hyatt. The nightly entertainment was also cancelled due to the power prblems. When discussed wiht the manager he said there was nothing that could be done. Additionally, the hotel did not have any childrens menu and were not helpful when you asked for something on the menu to be altered for your child. Needless to say I caution anyone seeking to stay at this hotel, there are other hotels that would be more suitable and treat guests with respect.
