Oaks Lagoons Port Douglas
4 out of 5

This was my second stay at this resort in three years. The swim out rooms are fantastic, especially with children, or just playing adults, good pool fencing, great facilities, set up. It is 4 Km into the center of Port Douglas, however close to all facilities, shops, 4 mile beach. Having been a previous resident of port Douglas, I can say its one of the best value for money resorts with great modern facilities. The only downside at present, seems to be the operator running the resort on skeleton staff levels, this is placing a lot of pressure on current staff to maintain service levels, was obvious with check in delays, waiting for rooms to be cleaned, particularly on weekends. The room opposite me had something smelling/ rotting in the bins, which took two days to be addressed post reporting it. At this price you will be lucky to find a resort that is as good in real life as it looks in the brochure. Unfortunately Port Douglas is struggling to attract visitors at present and a lot of the resorts are letting maintenance and the small things go to survive. If you have ever though about visiting the tropics Port Douglas is one of the best places to base yourself, the weather is the best in Australia, even in summer, not as hot as the southern states, yes a bit of humidity, but its great for the skin. If you have plenty of money get a sleep out at Sea Temple but it will cost you 2-3 times as much and the min sleep out is 2 bedrooms.

My criticism of the resort is no toaster in the room to prepare breakfast. You do not want to go to a community kitchen in PJs to get breakfast. Sink in room was far too small. There was far better value places closer to PT Douglas centre, that had full kitchen facilities for less price than Oaks lagoon.

Location, staff and general outlook good. Excellent value for money, but the room we were allocated was tired and dirty. The lampshades had stains, lights were full of bugs, window ledges full of bird droppings, sand around the spa, shower handle broken, sheets had rips and were stained (clean but stained). Overall very dissappointed with the cleanliness of the room we were alotted.

Beautiful complex and the swim outs are awesome but we did request, 6 weeks before arrival, for a unit on the sunnyside of the complex. We were told that rooms were only allocated on the day arrival (???) and consequently we received a room on the non-sunny side of the complex, had no sun at all and the pool was a good 5 degrees colder than the sunny side which was empty for 5 days of our stay. Why can't they allocate rooms as requested if available at the time of booking. Best room for sunny side and warm pool - apartment 50

This hotel had a lovely feel to it and was very quiet at the time we stayed. This hotel is not within walking distance of the town, but this did not bother us as we had a car and only went in for dinner once. The beach (and a kids playground / park) is only a five to ten minute walk away as well. The rooms were quite dusty and we didn't have any toiletries, but this was quickly remedied by the friendly staff at reception. As requested all of our rooms had been split into twins. The spa baths on the balcony were very relaxing, although because they were so big took a long time to fill. The pool area was really nice, and the BBQ facilities were great and clean. I would definitely stay here again!

We stayed for 4 nights at Oaks Lagoons in a 2 bedroom plunge pool apartment. The rooms were spacious and clean, the study area was large enough for a portacot for our daughter which meant both our kids got a room each. One bonus was the spa which we used instead of the pool as the pool was freezing. It is close to the beach but not to the main shopping area of Port Douglas but we had a car so that was fine. I would definitely stay here again.

Rooms and pool were exceptionally good, however resorts' lack of other facilities ie. bar, restaurant or even coffee shop was disappointing.

Nice hotel, good place to stay if you plan on having a relaxing holiday. Not the best location if you plan on going into town every day as the bus costs $4 each way ($7 return). Sounds like not much but when you go every day it all adds up. Port Douglas is very expensive for what it offers.

Great vacation. The apartment was bigger than we thought. The washer and dryer was great. There is no oven, but stove and microwave were good.

A great venue - had a private plunge pool with courtyard which was great though with other balconies overlooking it could hardly be described as private. Plenty of room and great airconditioning!!

This was our second stay here, and it didn't disappoint. The staff were as friendly and helpful as I remembered, and our swim-out room was lovely. It's a good location (assuming you've got transport) and has a very laid-back vibe - but the rooms, pool and grounds were clean and well kept. We'll definitely be back again!

Nice spacious apartments, good location, great views and surroundings. There is no lifts to get to the 2nd floor apartments, need to go by stairs. I would recommend this apartment.

Wonderful place to stay, comfortable, roomy and good facilities, great BBQ area. Stayed in swim out apartment on sunny side of resort. Can't fault the resort, but found fault with other guests not having respect for others, some were noisey - right outside our poolside chairs, while we were trying to relax, also people ignoring signs and diving into the pool right beside our unit. Apart from that the place was ideal, especially if you had a vehicle.
