Great location, but rooms a little on the tired side. My room taps were leaking and no shower curtain. Couch looked like it could have done with a good clean, and reception couldn't transfer a phone call to my room! Otherwise, comfy and large bed and room was a decent size. Reception staff friendly and helpful (except for the phone call transfer issue).

This hotel should allow dogs to stay as guests, because thats all its suitable for. 3 weeks before my stay I advised I had overbooked 1 night in error. This was advised within less than 24hrs of initially making my booking. I gave them 3 weeks notice and they refused to refund me. I contacted their parent company to address this issue literally weeks in advance and did not even receive an acknowledgement. Upon my arrival on 6 Oct 2012 I found both of the rooms I had booked (1 for myself & 1 for another couple) to be well below standard. These rooms have not been significantly refurbished since the hotel was built in the 50's. Bits of laminate were missing in multiple locations, light switches surrounded by ugly wear and gunk buildup, dust and spatter on light fittings and holes on doors covered with paper and tape, the list goes on…… It is painfully obvious the hotel group does not care about its guests and even more obvious; about its staff who were very quick to deny responsibility for keeping guests happy. If you visit the Minor International (appropriately named) website you'll find they love to keep their investors happy but very little is said about guest satisfaction. Any staff member reading this should find themselves another job ASAP because to work for Minor International or Oakes Hotels must be a soul destroying experience. See my photos and then compare them to the deceptive photos that mis-represent the Oakes Hyde Park Plaza Sydney.

Staff were great and in a great location. Room is very tired and dingy with stained carpets and fabrics that look filthy. Has all that you need eg chairs, kitchenette, comfortable bed but filthy ripped appearance so didn't really want to sit on anything or use facilities. Ripped fabrics and tawdry, torn finishes. Shame as with a little clean and makeover it would be fantastic. Location wise great for shopping in central Sydney, great to walk to Botanic Gardens and through Hyde Park. Easy access to trains and buses.

Perfect location on the edge of Hyde Park and the corner of Oxford Street. Fairly noisy on the weekend, and the whole hotel could do with a facelift. The poor old girl is looking a bit tired.

I was given a room on the Oxford Street and got hardly any sleep and had to move rooms on the second night. For a hotel that boarders onto one of the busiest streets at night in Sydney there was no sound proofing in the room which was just crazy. I will never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone at the risk that they end up on this side of the building. On the plus side they did have wonderful staff at the front desk. Some of the friendliest I've encountered and I travel a lot.

The room photos on the website definitely look better than they are in real life. The furniture is worn and tired and the paint chipped and marked. The television was a big old box with only 4 fuzzy channels. There were no hotel information brochures in the room that were able to find. The supposedly heated pool was absolutely bloody freezing! The gym (weights) equipment, what there was of it was rusty with worn and torn benches. The only positive element of the whole experience was the staff who were lovely - they were very friendly and helpful.

Plagued with breakdowns of the lifts with everyone having to use a service lift, and someone below over cooking eggs reulting in a visit from the fire brigade, this premise is tired and could really do with a make over. The rooms are good sized apartments, facilities basic. One good point is the shower is hot and plenty of water. Staff were generally accomodating. location is excellent 4 stars.. yes it meets the criteria, but is it a high quality 4 stars ?

Staff fantastic/helpful. Bed and lounge clean/comfy. But....Bathroom awful! Was very cramped indeed, dark and gloomy with only two small spotlights, multiple unfilled holes in tiles/wall and wall cupboard, shower sprayhead would not lock 'up' and kept falling right down, basin stained, no shelf to put one's toiletyry bag on, no towel rail just a couple of plastic hooks on rear of door. Only one wine glass. Maid had obviously washed tea cups by hand - stained. Would NOT recommend as the advertised 4 star!!

Room was not serviced the whole time we were there had to ask for towels told to come down to reception when i got there told they only had 1. I asked could they bring more up 3 hours later still no towells. Had to ask again as we were on our way out to dinner. To top it off when leaving for the airport i was made to stand for 5 minutes while the 2 reception staff did other duties (no other customers were at the counter)I had to ask a second time to please open the storage room to get our bags out. All staff were courtious they just didnt supply customer service very dissapointing.

The front receptionist was on his own and three ppl had complaints whilst I was waiting to check in. Cars pace we were given was already taken up by someone else and the carpark was super tight and we could barely fit our car in it. The rooms are quite small and nothing as presented in the pictures. All of the furniture looks dated and old and the bathroom looked like it had not been cleaned properly. There was hair and other things all over the bathroom floor in the corners which shows cleaning is rushed. It was just gross gross gross. The filters in the bathroom vents also need a good clean. We booked in for two nights and didn't bother with the second night, and stayed with family. This was a very unpleasant stay ...... I wish we paid the extra money to stay at the Marriott next door a much much better hotel and stay.

Easy check-in and on-site parking was great. Having such a great balcony overlooking Oxford Street was a bonus I wasn't expecting as I hadn't requested it. The only disappointment was not being able to take full advantage of it as I was marching in the parade. I would definitely stay here again for Mardi Gras!

The rooms was good but smelt bad, as did the whole hotel. The air con was noisy - so it had to be switched off to sleep. It had a great view of Hyde Park and was in a great handy location.

I had a studio with a small kitchen. Clean and friendly. I was not bothered by any noise though the room was too hot with the air conditioner not effective. It is close to oxford street if that is of interest and close to conference centres. The direct railway to airport is very convenient. Over all a tired but clean place to sleep.

Stayed 9 nights. Booking was for 1 bedroom apt. tried to give us a studio. Needed a good clean , shabby furniture. Had to ask for replacement frypan. Failed to provide service at required time (days into stay) had to follow up. Noisy from traffic below. When towels were missing wanted us to go to reception to collect.

I stay in a city hotel once a month for a girls night out and I was very pleasantly surprised with the size of the room when I checked as it was around twice the size of my last room at the Sebel in Surry Hills. This room had a kitchen and a view of the city and comfortable bed. Would be happy to stay again.
