Lillehammer Hotels

Not every Winter Games host fares as well or endures in the public eye as Lillehammer has over the years. The small town of 26,000 people simply won the world over however and for many, came out of nowhere to grab the international event from the likes of Anchorage, Alaska and Sofia, Bulgaria. Indeed, in all probability, the likes of Lillehammer may never host a Winter Games again. Rare is a host city in the modern Olympic era after all, which for all intents and purposes, is less of a city and more of a diminutive town. For a taste of Lillehammer’s singular charm then, take the 185 km trip up from Oslo and settle in for a few memorable days. Olympic mementos pervade the town of course, from the impressive Lygårdsbakkene Ski Jump to the Norwegian Olympic Museum, Ski Simulator to the Olympiaparken. Other worthwhile points of interest include the Lillehammer Art Museum and fabulous, open air Maihaugen Folk Museum.
