Haugesund Hotels

Haugesund General Information
Haugesund may not be an oft-trodden travel destination with the mainstream tourist set but the diminutive town is historically and strategically vital within Norway. Besides, come summer, Haugesund’s convivial waterfront teems with domestic tourists, most of whom openly concede that the municipality is a Haugelandet region gem. ... Read more »
Incredibly, Haugesund is at the veritable midway point between Oslo, the cosmopolitan capital of Norway, and Abderdeen, Scotland. Indeed, Haugesund is on the other side of the North Sea from Great Britain, with scenic Fjord Line ferry connections available to and from Newcastle Upon Tyne. The purported birthplace of Marilyn Monroe’s father is less of a pin-up bombshell and more of a demure, picturesque hub, suitable for a short sojourn in tandem with zippy catamaran forays to Bergen, Stavanger and the fjords. Still, Haugesund heralds charm in the form of old town architecture, brilliant seascapes and points of interest like the Krosshaugen Mound & Stone Cross and Saint Olav’s Church. Superb summer festivals churn visitors in and out of Haugesund with quasi-weekly frequency, from the International Jazz Festival to Harbour Days, Haugesund Fish Festival to Haugesund Blues Festival. The small city also unfurls a vibrant sports and recreation scene and teems with excellent restaurants and pubs. Visitors who venture to Haugesund at the height of summer will encounter a lively town, full of vim and vigour. When winter hits however, albeit in mild, temperate maritime fashion, the crowds tend to scatter.
