Favourite Cities and Hotels in Norway

Bergen is known best for its world-class music scene, which is not surprising as this city is the birthplace of renowned composer Edvard Grieg, whose grave and country house, Troldhaugen, are popular local attractions. Some tourists may be fortunate to visit during one the city's world-famous music festivals like NightJazz, Bergenfest, or the Bergen International Festival. This city is packed with culture, but nearby Mount Floyen and the surrounding fjords is waiting for those who feel stifled by indoor attractions.

  • Bergenhus Fortress
  • Gamle Bergen
  • Vilvite (science museum)
  • Enjoy a Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra concert
  • Explore nearby medieval Bryggen
  • Watch contemporary plays at BIT Teatergarasjen

Air travellers may land at Bergen Airport Flesland just a brief drive from the city centre. Alternatively, travellers can take one of the comfortable couch buses from Oslo's airport.

The all-around best modes of public transport are the city bus and light rail services. Driving in Bergen is challenging since speed limits are low and many roads are one-way only.
