Alesund Hotels

The town of 43,000 people in More og Romsdal county, in Norway’s gorgeous Sunnmore district, is an attractive little seaport with a unique set of attractions in its pocket. Surprisingly, significant Art Nouveau architecture is one of them. Indeed, the top must-see point of interest in Alesund is the remarkable Jugenstilsenteret, or Art Nouveau Centre. Inaugurated by Queen Sonja in 2003, the museum-cum-art gallery is the town’s pride and joy. Alesund’s most prominent claim to fame however, might well be as a gateway to the UNESCO World Heritage West Norwegian Fjords. Both Geirangerfjord and Naeroyfjord are a relatively short, photogenically scenic cruise from Alesund. While the small city’s a first-rate port of call for those skipping off to other climes, make a point to stick around an extra day or two. Alesund has a habit of growing on people who make time for it and incites a kind of whimsical, hindsight nostalgia among those who choose not to seek out its manifold charms.
