Whangarei lies near the top of New Zealand’s North Island. She can show you the sights at Cafler Park, which spans Waiarohia Streamand Coronation Scenic Reserve. And then, if you’re good to her, Whangarei will show you all the hidden bars, clubs and pubs as well as the best places to eat. So if you’re looking for haunts that you won’t find on a street sign, Whangarei is an excellent city to sell your soul to.

WHANGAREI EVENTS
August brings the family spirit to town with the Mander Park Picnics Weekend.Take a Frisbee and stock your basket with local produce to nosh on.
Once a month in July and August, Sunday brings the Glenbervie Markets, offering local produce and stalls from travelling salesmen (carneys!).
Meet @ the Marina springs into September with live performances, buskers, markets and special menus keeping local restaurants open late.
December prepares for Christmas with the Waipu Boutique Sunday Market and Café. Everything from art and craft to jewellery to cheese and wine and produce is on offer.
WHEN TO GO
· Summer in Whangarei see temperatures of around 25°C (77°F).
· Winters call for a jumper rather than a jacket, with daytime averages of around 15°C (59°F). But wear your socks to bed and your uggies in the morning, as there’s often a frost to wake up to.
· Autumn and spring see a decent number of sunny days and not too much rainfall.
GETTING AROUND
· Walking is a great option. There are loads of little galleries and pubs hiding out that are easy to miss if you’re hanging your head out the bus window.
· The only public transport here is the bus. Tickets are $3 and will get you around town and into the neighbouring suburbs.
· Taxis are trustworthy, easy to find and will always use the meter.
