Waiheke Island Climate
Due to being situated in the Hauraki Gulf, the climate on Waiheke Island is drier and warmer than nearby Auckland. Sea breezes moderate the rising temperatures in summer, keeping the average high temperatures to around 25°C in January and February. The rainy season begins in April with short, intense showers.
Getting There & Around
The main way to get to Waiheke Island is by sea, with ferries from Auckland taking just 35 minutes to arrive. Other ferry services operate from Half Moon Bay to the island. There are also some chartered helicopter flights to the island. The nearest international airport is Auckland Airport.
There is a bus service operating on the island, which connects the main populated areas of Matiatia Wharf, Onetangi and Rocky Bay. Taxis are available for hire, and you can also rent a car to drive around.
