Omarama General Information

The Otago Region of New Zealand’s South Island is a picture-postcard platform for memorable travels. For many, this signals forays to Lakes District resort towns like Queenstown and Wanaka. Coveted for scenery and myriad summer and winter recreational pursuits alike, Wanaka is particularly adored for the Treble Cone, Cardrona Alpine Resort, Snow Park and Snow Farm ski areas. Easily accessible via Wanaka Airport from Christchurch, the town is in the throes of a terrific growth spurt. The tiny village of Omarama is a popular side trip from Wanaka, most notably with the backpacker set, and ranks as a casual and affable escape. With a miniscule population of less than 300 people, Omarama is primarily a rural service stop for area farmers. The hamlet provides a few inherent landmarks however and is a premier destination for international gliders.
