Masterton Climate

Masterton enjoys a mild climate with warm, dry summers and cold winters. With its position in the Wairarapa Valley near the Tararua Range, the city’s temperatures fluctuate more than other areas nearby. Summer temperatures can exceed highs of 86°F (30°C), whereas winters have frequent frost and lows below 32°F (0°C).

Getting There & Around

Masterton is connected to Wellington and the Hutt Valley by the Wairarapa Connection, a Tranz Metro passenger service. Visitors can use this upon arriving at the Wellington Airport. The Greater Wellington Region's Metlink bus service connects the city to other areas as well.

Getting around the city can be done with the Metlink, hired cars and taxis. The Metlink bus service in Masterton has five routes, three suburban routes and two regional routes. The centre of the town is small enough for visitors to walk about on foot.
