The Snow and Ice Experience

The “Snow and Ice Experience” is a must-see in a custom made polar room. Inside there is real snow and ice made by machines. But this is not fake snow…it’s the real deal. You can even eat the snow if you want! You can have a snowball fight, hide in the ice cave, slide down the ice slides and brave the wind storm which goes off every 30 minutes. This is a fun experience for every age.

The Penguin Encounter

Recently opened in 2006, the New Zealand Penguin Encounter is home to 26 Little Blue Penguins. The enormous pool and above ground deck allow the penguins to experience a strikingly similar environment to the Banks Peninsula. You can see the penguins underwater or above ground outdoors.

Hagglund Ride

If time permits in your visit to the International Antarctic Centre take a thrilling ride on the Hagglunds, the enormous Antarctic all terrain amphibian-like vehicles. You can spend an exhilarating 15 minutes climbing up huge mounds and through pools of water in a Hagglund Ride.

Admission and Hours

The International Antarctic Centre is open every day of the year including Christmas from 9am to 5:30pm in the winter and 7pm in the summer. Admission is $30 for adults and $20 for children. Kids under four years old are free. Combo tickets are available if you want to participate in other activities like the Hagglund Ride and the backstage passes to the Penguin Encounter.
