The Aquarium des Lagons was founded in 1956 by Dr. René Catala and his wife, Ida. It was originally called the Aquarium de Noumea after the city in which it exists. The Aquarium is made up of nine different areas including the lagoon, the auditorium, the mangrove, the coastal zone and more. From the Noumea Magenta Airport take Rue Roger Gervolino to Rue Du 18 Juin. From there take the exit to Voie de DégagementEst then Promenade Pierre Vernier. From there, follow signs to Promenade Roger Laroque. If you are at all uncomfortable with driving to the aquarium, you can hire a taxi or a car or you can use the public transit system. There is a tram system that runs the major roads several times a day. You may also want to consider the Noumea Explorer, a hop-on, hop-off bus that is open to tourists.« Hide
