NH Barbizon Palace Hotel Amsterdam
5 out of 5

The room was spacious, very comfortable and extremely clean. The location of the hotel is ideal for anyone arriving in the city by rail, being a short stroll from the Centraal Station. The Damrak and Dam Square are only a few minutes away. On arrival we were struck by the very attractive lobby. Check in was very efficient and we were offered a 'nice room with a view'. Well, the room was certainly very nice but the view turned out to be the side of a church, mostly all we could see were bricks.. What was worse is that the room was above a very noisy street, full of bars and one of the main thoroughfares to get to the Red Light District - however the hotel thoughfully provides ear plugs! We did not eat or drink in the hotel itself, but there were a choice of restaurants and bars onsite that looked lovely. There are also a lot of restaurants in the immediate vicinity so guests really are spoilt for choice. We cannot fault the hotel in any way at all and we will happily stay there again.

First time staying here. It was recommended and I'm glad we listened. The staff are attentive, pleasant and very very welcoming, (and good looking too!!) On check in we were asked if we wanted a view (Yes please!!) No extra charge!! The room was more like a suite. Based on 2 levels (!?) very comfortable, spacious and a view of Damrak & Centraal station. One thing though, the double glazing is not actually double glazing, it's quite thick panels of glass screwed over the outside windows. Other reviewers have complained of the noise of trams, Hmm! Depends on what time you get up I suppose. They dont actually start until about 7 ish I believe by which time most people are up for breakfast. However being night owls and not going to bed until the (very) small hours we didn't notice them until we woke around mid-day (LOL). So try to ignore other comments, Seriously, they're not that noticeable. The hotel bar is a nice place to meet before heading out but is somewhat dimly lit but that didn't really matter as we weren't staying long. The foyer of the hotel is just magnificent, black and white marble and very grandiose. Personal and special thanks to Johnathan on reception who very kindly helped me with trying to check in on line and very graciously offered us late check out (He'd seen us roll up in the early hours). Many Thanks indeed. Gold star :) For the Brits out there, turn left and left again outside the hotel on to Waarmoestraat, 150 yds down on the left try Teddy's Corner. See Josephine (Essex Lass). Anyway, On the whole This is a top quality hotel with top quality furnishing and decor and the best staff you could ever come across. Highly Recommend. Tip: If you're a light sleeper request a room away from the front of the hotel. They will be quieter

I had a quiet room at the back of the hotel facing a small canal. The hotel is opposite Central Station, and alongside a small pedestrian street called Zeedijk.

The hotel is in a fantastic location. The canals are close by and within walking distance. Many sights are also very close. There are many good restaurants close by as well. We were upgraded to a very comfortable room with a great view. The room was very tastefully decorated, very comfortable and spacious. The hotel restaurant has fine food and good ambiance. The staff was very professional and attentive. I would definitely stay there again. We were very happy with the hotel.

The hotel is in a good location near the train station, but our room was on the 1st floor next to the street and we could hear everything going on til it quieted down around 2am. The bed had not been replaced in the last 10 years I think, old tv, have to pay to use the fitness center

For the AUD$166 we paid at the time, this hotel was fantastic. Huge king bed and large room and ensuite, free wifi in lobby and 5 star service. You can see the hotel from the front of the Centraal station so very easy to get to, and just a short walk into the sights of Ansterdam.

Good location near central station and city centre. Breakfast too expensive especially compared to nearby restaurant at a third of the price. Free tea and coffee in room but only one of each and only one milk/creamer. Room size modest with a small standard double bed, not really 5*. The only 5* bit was the restaurant and at 75 Euros for dinner a bit expensive. Also asked for no smoking but corridor reeked of smoke and room had been used by a smoker, even had ashtray and matches. Nice to have a late checkout on the Sunday. Visit was to celebrate an anniversary but no opportunity for extras to be pre booked.

Breakfast was not included in the room price and was charged with 25 Euro per day per person. Too much. Parking was not listed at pay parking in the web page and was 47 Euro per night. Very highprice

We were very pleasantly surprised with this hotel, right near Central Railway Station and at the head of all Tram routes. Our room was huge with king size bed and vast area for lounging around, plus big bathroom and large wardrobe. Very well run hotel.

Great location only a few minutes from Centraal Station. An hours Wifi access now available for only about €6 which was fine to let me check e-mails. Very pleasant & helpful staff. Good size room with all facilities required.

It is really clean, good located hotel. Even the prise for a room is good. However, I have no idea why it is 5 star hotel. Probably, because of the food and drink prices. Which, lets be honest, over the top (especially, full English breakfast is for 22 EUR per person, you can get buffet breakfast in near restaurant for 10 EUR). I recommend this hotel, but go and have nice meal and breakfast outside. There are plenty of nice restaurants (Italian, Argentinian, Chineese, Japaneese, you name it) near the hotel.

Top class Hotel. The only thing wrong there is a charge to use their fitness facilities daily & a charge for the use of their internet service. All these services should be included in the rom price as it was not cheap.

Very nice hotel but expected a little more complimentary items for the honeymoon suite. Beware of moving items around in minibar for chilling personal items as you're charged for every piece out of it's spot for longer than 10 seconds. Frontdesk had to remove several charges from our bill which they very readily did (this could have been avoided/confirmed each morning by housekeeping after seeing all contents present even if rearranged) . Not a huge problem and hotel (especially it's superb breakfast buffet) still gets our high recommendations.

Location is very good in AMS. Breakfast buffé is one of the best I have enjoyed. I got a nice room with view at the channel very near the water (room 007). I felt like James Bond. Next time I will stay here.
