Unfortunately, the weather was terrible the weekend we chose to visit the South Island. Riverbanks burst and the sun only popped out from time to time. Thank goodness the accommodation was wonderful. Spending plenty of time indoors with two kids can be very stressful. Not at Mount Richmond Estate ƒº. Full insulation, double glazing and a heat pump allowed us to feel more comfortable than at home! The well-appointed kitchen and bathroom were a delight to use. I presume, legally speaking, that the owners have to say ¡§recently refurbished/renovated¡¨ but all the units appeared to be brand spanking new: a great place to stay both long and short term. In closing, I wish that more accommodation in New Zealand was up to the quality of Mount Richmond Estate.

Nice forest setting. Good spa.Good cafe and pub close by. Lots of outdoor pursuits to do in the area. Great bush walks and trout fishing.

We stayed in a well appointed, self contained and comfortable chalet. Good location for exploring the Rai Valley area and the nearby Sounds. Duncan Bay was a very nice spot to have a picnic and the scenic drive over the winding road to Tennyson Inlet was worth it.
