When To Go

Nuevo Vallarta enjoys a tropical climate, and as such remains temperate all year round. The summer averages are 31°C (89°F) and 24°C (76°F) high and low, and in winter it gets down to a high and low average of 26°C (80°F) and 16°C (62°F). The wet season is between June and October, but rain tends to fall mainly at night, so days are still sunny.

Winter is peak tourist season in Nuevo Vallarta, and prices tend to increase, so if you’re frugal, it could pay to visit late in the year when temperatures are perfect and prices are lower. The Bay of Banderas naturally protects Nuevo Vallarta from hurricanes, so they’re very scarce in this area.

Geting There

Puerto Vallarta’s Gustav Diaz International Airport serves both cities, and lies between the two, around 10 kilometres (6.2 miles) from Nuevo Vallarta. Taxis and minibuses are plentiful to make the journey into town, or if you’d prefer to drive yourself, rental cars are available from the airport. When sightseeing, the best way to get around the city is by bus. They’re clearly marked and a highly entertaining mode of transport. Taxis are also common in Nuevo Vallarta, but fares increase at night. Boat cruises along the extensive canal system are a relaxing way to see the city.
