Ixtapa is a gorgeous historic city in the Mexican state of Guerrero that promises to be a delightful resort getaway. When To Go

Ixtapais considered a semi-tropical area, and it does not have distinct seasons as far as temperature is concerned. The area stays hot year-round. The ‘summer’ months are May though September with highs of 33-37°C (91-99°F). These are also the rainiest months with 20-30 cm (7.9-11.8 in) of rain in August and September and at least 17 cm (6.7 in) from May through July. The rest of the year brings high temperatures of 30-32°C (86-90°F). ‘Winter’ lows in Ixtapa can be as frigid as 19°C (66°F) (you can layer a slightly sarcastic tone over that, really). There may be some people who actually need a sweater for those evenings when the temperature drops, but they will not need an umbrella because there is rarely more than a centimetre of rain during these cooler months.

Getting There

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo airport is only a 35-minute flight from Mexico City, and this airport is about 6 km (3.7 mi) from Ixtapa'scentre. It offers an air taxi service to and from Acapulco as well. You can take a quick ride by taxi or bus to your lodgings from here. The city can be reached right off the Autopista Del Sol freeway if you are interested in driving from Mexico City rather than flying. You can drive to Ixtapa within eight hours, but be aware that there are tolls. Most travellers prefer to go this distance on a comfortable coach, however, as they offer films and refreshments during the trip and are a great way to see Mexico. You can get around in town by walking using taxis, city bus or microbus (cheapest option).
