Metro Hotel Sydney Central

Quiet, enjoyable hotel close to central station and access to airport

Very small room for AUD216 per night and the remote for TV is designed to force you to choose Movie or TV. If you accidentally press the Movie it will automatically charge you $10 even though you cancel and didn't watch it. Tried to complain to Hotel Manager but, was very aggressive and fighting and in the end, he still wins and charged us (forgot the name of the manager but he worked with a very nice Chinesse lady staff who understand our complain well). I would not recommend this very small room hotel at all with un-polite hotel manager.

We had a pleasant stay , we arrived early (12.30) and were greated wth a smile and keys to our room. Which was a great bonus. We had read really bad reviews about this hotel but had a very big schedule over past weeks and decided to downgrade from our usual standards. We were pleasantly suprsed. The room was clean and comfortable , there was no view or extras but we did not expect that. Our bed was comfortable and room was quiet and dark .Foxtel . Bathroom was average with a shower over bath but clean. May be an issue for some. Overall i cannot think of a single reason why we would not stay here again , location is fantatic and very good value for money. Would stay a night not sure about a week .Thanks we will be back.

There is no such thing as a fair priced hotel in Sydney, but "this Metro" hotel isn't too bad if you can get a room for around $120 a night. I regularly travel to Sydney and over the years have stayed in a range of hotels. If you have the money always stay closer to the "Circular Quay" end of town, especially if a tourist. But you WILL need to be willing to pay!! This particular Metro, is a close walk to "Central" station, and China Town, a 40 minute leisurely wander to Darling Harbour, and a 15 minute stroll to the Mall. During the day the noise of the city resonates through the rooms, but at night it is reasonable quiet. It is a basic "Mid Range Sydney Hotel" with basic rooms, basic amenities but shows effort is and has been made to upgrade and improve fittings and decor, and is definitely better presented and kept than most near by hotels that charge more. ( Some lovely Brett Whiteley prints on the 12th floor) Clean crisp sheets on a comfortable modern real "queen" bed. Standard vented Air Con kept the room cool, and seemed to work better than most internal systems. Tiled bathroom small but bright and clean, with the usual signs of use and mould around the bath and shower, but this is found in hotel rooms that charge three times as much, and is an Australian hotel standard due to not allowing cleaning staff to use any bleach products as well as the the amount of time allocated to clean each room. Staff were of the usual "N.S.W Charm", not overly friendly nor outwardly genuine, but pleasant helpful and effective enough which is always a bonus in Sydney. Overall, it is, far better value ( at $120 - $130) than most other so called "Mid Priced Hotels" in Sydney, and better than its sister " Pitt Street " hotel, which is 5 minutes closer to the centre of town. Maximum I would pay for a basic queen room at this hotel ... $140 per night. If paying more then I would look at staying closer to the Harbour Bridge end of town, or North Sydney. But Good Luck On That !

We chose to stay at this hotel for the location and the price. We were dissapointed about the staff. They weren't very friendly, didn't smile or say thank you. Also when we arrived at our room the shower gel dispensor in the bath was broken and had leaked so there was soap covering the bottom of the bath. We payed for wireless internet and this didnt work on the second night of our stay and the staff didnt seem to care, or know what to do. I wont stay at the Metro again.

Many centrally located hotels in capital cities, can be over-priced and provide very ordinary standards and facilities, so this property is a pleasant surprise being central, clean and tidy and reasonably priced, run by pleasant helpful staff. So I'm happy to recommend it to anyone wishing to stay in a midlle-of-the-market Sydney hotel.

Have stayed here before as it is conveniently located to Chinatown, the Capitol Theatre and the Central Railway Station. It is a typical 3 star hotel and is clean and comfortable. Interesting to note that we have been travelling for 5 weeks through Turkey, Greece and Singapore in similar (or less star) hotels. This is the first we have encountered without free WiFi - Aussie hotels need to lift their game!

Reasonable accommodation in CBD, rather aged accommodation but reasonable, clean and comfy bed. Bathroom needs renovations, toilet was squeezed in a too small space.

The room we had was a bit small for 3 people but it was OK for 1 night. Room was clean except for the bath tub. Service from reception was OK for a very short stay.

I needed an hotel for one night over a long weeknd as I was attending a conference. It was a really last minute booking so I was pleased when this hotel came up The price was right and as I have stayed there before I knew the accomodation would suit me. I arrived quite early but was able to check in immediately and was actually upgraded.

Great spot for me in regards to my reasons for being in Sydney. Great price per my budget allowance. Room clean but nothing special. Staff friendly. Television was a pain to turn on/change channels wasn't working well- . I would stay again due to reasons I have stated - work budget and location.

We stayed at the hotel for a few nights from Australia Day 2012. This was our first time at the Metro Hotel and I found it very pleasing overall, The location is perfect close to all transport including light rail to darling harbour etc. Easy walk to Chinatown and Paddys Markets. The room was on the small side but it had everything you needed and for the price we paid was very good value for Central Sydney.
