Mercure Wellington
4 out of 5

Convenient, inexpensive, and entirely suitable for the one-night stop that was all that I required. I didn't have breakfast so cannot comment on that aspect.

Very dissapointed when we went back early to the hotel after a cold day out, only to find that the swimming pool was not heated, sauna was not working, on top of the not-so-clean site.... then the next day, the facilities were still not fixed..

A nice quite hotel within walking distance to the city shops, restaurants and cafes etc. A bit of a walk to Te Papa and the TSB arena. We enjoyed our stay here but for a similar price could probably stay a bit more central.

I stayed here only because I had a meeting there next day. It's a bit of a walk into the city and there are no eating places handy. Room service was good though.

The only drawback is the hotel is located high on a hill and a reasonable distance from the city centre. So unless you have a vehicle or are reasonably fit this hotel might not suit.Taxis are not cheap.

3 star only, clean rooms and frienly staff but parking must be extra paid with $20 per night. The Bar at the hotel was not heated and too cold to have a drink.

Not a bad hotel to stay at although located on a hill and walking up the hill can be difficult at times

Neat Clean tidy. Good Value Hotel is getting a bit dated however very comfortable. This is the Mecure up on the Hill. Need to have power points close to the beds for a CPAP machiing. Parking is charged at $20 per night - however they did not charge us - there is no provision for other off or on street parking. Room was good value however Internet is charged at .89 Cents a minute (annoying)

We spent the weekend at the Mercure - The Terrace. The service is great - very attentive and informative where possible. The buffet breakfast - very fruitful and the flat whites were alright (I am a self confessed espresso snob). the one complaint I do have is that we checked out on Monday before 11am, it is now Wednesday morning and the remainder of the $100 bond HAS STILL NOT BEEN CREDITED TO MY VISA, despite a request yesterday and another will be made today. The mini bar was removed, so none of that consumed. The only thing we needed to pay for was parking - $36.00. Come one Mercure. You can do a little better than this as your lasting impression on the guest.

Nice hotel. Our grandchildren enjoyed the pool. Only problem was fire alarm went off at about 10-30pm just as kids going to sleep and they were so frightened by having to get up and run down the stairs and outside they couldn't sleep. So not very restful- all ended up tired and cranky on what was supposed to be a weekend away to celebrate the grand daughters birthday- these things happen.

while the room i stayed in was a little small, certainly fine if you are there by yourself, the overall experience was above my expectations. Reception staff were amazing, and i was lucky enough to witness a very difficult situation with a person wanting accommodation, although the hotel was fully booked, the staff member did everything he could (and then more) to calm and comfort the distraught girl, while helping her find accommodation elsewhere

we enjoyed the heated pool, which was lovely and warma dn well maintained. The pool area could do with refurbishing however (a paint job would suffice). Inside the motel was a little confusing to find your way around with many stairwells leading to staff areas or dead ends, which could have been better sign posted.

Staff very friendly, evening chicken meal was fantastic - compliments to the chef last friday night! Hotel facilities definitely tired, shower in our room either icy cold or boiling hot - dangerous!! also pillows hard and flat - we enquired at reception for a softer pillow option but told that the firm ones we had were standard issue. Whilst the hotel is further away from the CBD than most (reflected in the cheaper night rate) the walk down hill is easy and refreshing in the Welington wind and it is only $8 to $10 for a taxi back up the hill later on.

Through (website) I booked a superior room with 2 double beds. We received a room that had 1 double bed and a single fold out bed. 1 towel and 1 flannel, the room was right next to the lifts so that was all we heard all night. The bathroom was as small as a closet and in dire need of repairs. After the first night I did complain (in a nice manner) and we were upgraded to a better one bedroom suite. However it still only had 1 true double bed and a foldout couch, which comfort wise was worse than the fold out trundler bed. We did have the correct towels but the spare bed only had sheets and 1 blanket folded at the end of it. I would not pay the money we did for this type of accomodation again.
