Mercure Southampton Centre Dolphin Hotel
4 out of 5

This is my second stay at this hotel. I arrived early and after a brief delay was able to check in 90 minutes before the stated time. The restaurant was fully booked for dinner and I had to leave early, without taking breakfast, so I cannot comment on the service, food quality etc. The staff, on reception, that I spoke with were all very friendly and helpful. The city "free" bus from Central Station stops right outside the hotel, which is ideal when arriving by train. I have no hesitation in recommended this hotel

We had a brilliant stay at the mercure dolphin hotel, I mean, anywhere that starts with a red carpet and revolving door has my thumbs up! Only down side was that our shower didn't work but we were given another room as well as ours for free to sort it so that was fine! not even five minutes from West Quay and the staff were lovely, can't wait to have an excuse to go back!

Very attentive and helpful staff. I chose to select from room service, which carried a £5 tray charge. The items were very tasty and delivered to my room within the quotd time. Room was spacious and double bed, for sole guest, was very comfortable. I did not use any other facilities during my brief stay, but I will book again when next in Southampton.

Really disappointed with hotel. Jane Austen is supposed to have spent her 21st birthday there - I don't think it has been decorated since. Carpet along hallways were torn, stained and badly badly worn and actually verging on being dangerous for tripping up. No wardrobes in bedroom for hanging clothes - a shelf had been put up with coat hangers! Finishings in bedroom looked like DIY gone wrong. All-in-all a hotel desperately needing refurbished from top to bottom. We will never ever go back.

The hotel had a `run down` feel to it. Our room was very small and the view from the window was on to a rather delapidated back court area. It was approached from a corridor with a threadbare carpet which was dirty and paintwork extremely shabby. Not exactly welcoming. Had we been staying more than two nights in S`hampton we would have moved to another hotel. Sorry but we won`t be staying there again.

The Dolphin was a great hotel - from the outside it looks old fashioned and possibly a little run down, and then you walk into an arty modern hotel. Each room has it's own artists stamp and so they are all unique and fun. Not much attention has been paid to the overall paint job of the hotel, however, this seems to just add to the overall effect. It was clean and tidy, the towels were huge and soft, and the bed was very comfortable. There was not much in the way of other comforts in the room - a fridge would have been good, but then what more do you really need? I would definitely stay here again.

I thought the Hotel was exceptionally good value. Breakfast was excellent, great atmosphere and decor downstairs. If I had a criticism it would be the bed, but couldnt possibly complain overall for the money that we paid.

We only had one night here before going on a cruise. Reception staff were pleasant but we had a heck of a time finding our room and getting 5 weeks luggage up to it. Quaint and quirky and about to be done up. Hope they don't modernise it too much. Excellent staff. Bar/restaurant downstairs with really nice meals and nice atmosphere. Look forward to going back.
