Mercure Museum Hotel Budapest Guest Reviews
I have to say my stay was kind of unique or had its ups and downs. First of all I had read many of the reviews abot the hotel and for the most part they were OK, but my stay had a variety of pros and cons. First of all the 2 rooms I booked were rather small, especially the bathroom shower. I am 6 feet tall and skinny. I had a hard time moving around in the shower. My friends room had a bit bigger shower, but had a bad odor in the room. I decided that these factors were not acceptable and asked for other rooms, but had the same situation occur. One had a small shower again and the other smelled funny. Finally had to upgrade to the next larger size room and this is definitly much better size and more comfortable. Unfortunately it is a good 30 Euros per day more for this next size up. I bit the bullet however and took the upgraded rooms. This made the stay a bit more enjoyable. I defintley have to say that there are some strange smells in some of the rooms and even the hallways in the certain parts of the various floors of the hotel. I would have to say the modern rooms are better than the older ones, they seemed to be the ones that smelled funny. Location of the hotel is pretty good since it is near the tram and also the subway as well. Numerous bakeries and restaurants nearby also. I can honestly say the best part of the trip was the staff of the hotel. They were wonderful to work with and very helpful in getting around Budapest. They made the trip bearable. Finally, the taxi service they work with is very good and reasonable taking you to wherever you need to go at a reasonable rate. One word of warning which has nothing to do with the hotel I would like to pass on is beware of the gypsy taxi drivers. They are a big rip off and charge you way too much for all trips. Avoid at all costs. They will be the cars at the train station and the tourist areas without a phone number on their car. They will have a TAXI decal or hood ornament, but as I said no phone number and avoid them. Even when they say they have a meter, they do, but their charge is 5 times the normal price. Example I took a taxi from the hotel and it cost me about 5.00 U.S. dollars. The same ride back with a gypsy taxi was $25.00. So BEWARE!! I hope this has been helpful and informative for anyone who is considering staying in Budpaest and at the Mercure Hotel.

best value compared to other hotels within the area. extra 5min walk from the food street and ped area but given that you would walk the city anyway, dont think 5min extra matters much. save on costs and stay here. well worth the savings.

Unless you're visiting the nearby museum, the hotel is not really close to any attractions or shopping. However, the subway is a relatively short walk, the room was fine and the breakfast quite adequate.

Staff, location, and facilities were very good--a good location to see the city

Comfort, style and good service, a truely well thought out interior design. Excellent location About the only negative criticisms I could force my self to offer are trivial, the bar is not open during the day which seriously curtailed my coffee consumption and the TV selection for English speakers is limited to CNN (which has not improved over the years) and Eurosport (Yawn - boring)...
