Mercure Hotel Launceston
3 out of 5

We took the early flight so arrived at the hotel around 11am. We then ask the staff at the reception if he could keep our backpacks since we want to go out for lunch prior to check in. The staff at that time, with an unhappy face assist us. For the next 2 nights our keycard doesnt work. Beside that we did enjoy our meals at the Snapper restaurant.

The hotel is in a great location, easy walking distance to town. The room itself was pretty average, we were unfortunate and stayed next to the parking lot so we could hear people leaving in the early morning. The worst part of our experience here was the staff. After a long day traveling we finally arrived and parked our car. We noticed that the parking said please see Mercure staff. So we didn't buy a permit. When we checked in we asked if we needed to buy a permit. She said yes you do, parking is not free, so we organized one of our group to go back and pay for a permit at the pay box in the parking lot. When we came back the "manager" told us no we did it wrong you have to pay here and that would last you 24 hours, instead of until 9PM. Why didn't she tell us that in the first place? Then we had to pay another $12 after she was snotty saying- "there are signs!" Rude staff. I hate bad customer service, never will I stay here again.

The location is in CBD, you just need to walk everywhere. The room is nice with comfortable bed. There is no free internet nor parking, though. You need to pay $6 per day for parking. It is a bit noisy with the church bell every 30 minutes. Overall, it is great hotel.

We found the staff friendly and helpful during our brief stay, but breakfast expensive. The Old Tram bar was interesting.

Comfortable clean and central: great if you have business in Launceston. In Launceston in winter you need an electric blanket: we were surprised that Mercure didn't have any. Snappers Restaurant good food but service very slow: nearly 50 mins fron ordering to receiving (garlic bread excepted). We complained and received an extra round of drinks so no hard feelings but I still think the kitchen could be quicker off the mark. Lower rooms at front can be noisy: higher up at the back quite ok. Tip: when using internet, ask for the Outgoing Mail address, otherwise you can receive email but canlt send.

Hotel ok. We booked online and on arrival were offered an upgrade from a standard room to, supposedly, a better room, at a cost of $40 per night. We were told upgrading our room would give us a bigger room, also a view. We agreed to be upgraded at a cost of $40 p/n @ 2 nights and our room was miniscule with a view over the car park. Go figure.

Arrived on a 30 degree day, couldn't believe the rooms weren't air conditioned, just a fan and a water filled cooler.

This hotel was clean and modern, however it was quite noisy. A great location in the cbd, walking distance to everything in Launceston.

Our stay at the Mercure was ok. The hotel was unable to accommodate an early check in (at 12pm rather than 2pm) despite having rung them earlier in the week to advise them of our early arrival and we had to wait around for an hour for them to clean the room and then they were late in getting it ready. The central airconditioning was also not working while we stayed there and despite having an in room air conditioner, it also did not produce any cool air. It was refreshing to get outside and get some cool air despite it being in summer. The hotel felt very stuffy. Given the high price we paid for the room ($189 for one night), I would try elsewhere in Launceston if we visited again.

No air conditioning units in rooms is not acceptable. Most rooms did not have air conditioning.

Don't have aircon, and the window doesn't have flyscreen, so have to close window and use a fan.
