Manchebo Beach Resort & Spa Oranjestad Guest Reviews
I would have given this 5 stars, except for the ridiculous amount of late night noise, and the management's apparent lack of concern for guests who like to sleep at a reasonable time (to me, that is 10:30 p.m.) The Positive: Accommodation at this hotel is definitely good value; the staff are mostly friendly and helpful (with one exception, who seems to like to shout at guests), and rooms are well-appointed and clean. The rooms have a small fridge and a microwave. The beach is wide, with palm-thatched beach umbrellas and plenty of sun loungers. It's less crowded than the high-rise places. Swimming is very good, once you're beyond the fairly gentle (by surf standards) breaking waves. Those are fine for boogie boarding (you can buy a basic boogie board in the gift shop for just under $20). There is little current at most times, and no undertow to speak of. Large beach towels are provided, and you can exchange them whenever you like. Overall, very good - so far.... The Neutral: There are a couple of restaurants and a bar. As to food, we ate at one restaurant ("Giorgio's"), one time - we weren't at all impressed, but that may not have been typical, so please don't consider that a negative review! We didn't try the other. Disappointingly, most restaurants in Aruba are American/European (steakhouses, pizza places and similar eateries abound). You might as well be in a US town!. There's an OK Thai between Manchebo and the high-rise hotel area. Luckily, we were able to find one good Aruban one called "The Aruban Chef", which we recommend. Ask the hotel staff where it is. You can find some decent local-run eating places down at the south end of the island. The bar is another story. There's a happy hour for two hours in the late afternoon/early evening, when you get two drinks for the price of one. If you plan to drink any beer, you'll need that. The local beer retails for between 2 and 2.5 florins (Awg) [see http://coinmill.com/AWG_USD.html for conversions], roughly $1.50. Most restaurants mark this up to $4 - a high mark-up. Manchebo charges $5.25 US for a 20 cl bottle! To me, that is excessive - and the highest price we met on the island. Beer is available by the case at the nearby local supermarket (its prices seem high at frist glance, but remember they're in florins - the market staff will give you a pocket-sized conversion chart if you ask). The Negative: We stayed seven nights. Five were very quiet and we slept well. On one, there was a Karaoke session that went on until almost 11:30 p.m., with loud screaming and yelling. We asked for it to be quieted down at about 10:30 p.m., but might as well have prayed for it. Windows are single-glazed, not very soundproof (and there are no screens, by the way, so you cam have a little mosquito visit now and again). On our worst night, a wedding began at about 8 p.m. There was a deafeningly loud band (this is with the window closed, remember), and they played until just after 11 p.m. This excessively loud band could have been set up at the far end of the large enclosed area (the beach end), but were instead positioned right in front of the guest windows. They stopped playing about ten minutes I called the front desk to ask when the noise would stop so we could sleep, and was told, "in a minute" (a coincidence). The next two hours were filled with quieter, but very audible music, very loud conversation/yelling, and some drunk blowing what sounded like a car horn! This petered out at about 12:50 p/m., so sleep was allowed to guests at 1 a.m.! How often this occurs, I can't say - but people get married all the time, so...... You may say, why didn't these up-tight, boring old farts just ask for a quieter room. Well, there aren't any. Most, if not all, are arranged around the bar/party area, and the management don't care if you don't like the noise (we complained on two occasions, but to no avail). The printed spiel by the manager states, repetitively, that he hopes you will get "relaxation a

My boyfriend and I wanted a restful vacation. We decided on Manchebo beach resort and found just that. It was quiet and peaceful. Plenty of space between you and other couples. The beach was fantastic, the on site Resurants were delicious. There is plenty of tiki huts so no need to get up early to get one. Loved it!

This is the best place in the world. So relaxing and the best beach on the island. Great rooms and staff. Can't wait to go back next year.
