South Male Atoll is one of 26 atolls that form the coral islands of the Maldives. It is a prime resort area since it is close to the Equator. The abundance of sunshine and warm temperatures makes South Male Atoll perfect for scuba diving, boating and lounging on the beautiful beaches. Euro-Divers Kandooma is one of the professional dive teams based at South Male Atoll, which offer group scuba diving expeditions. No doubt you will want to venture out to other atolls during your stay at South Male Atoll. If you want to explore local culture, you will want to visit Male for its National Museumand several historical buildings, such as Hukuru Miskiiy, the Friday Mosque. Next door is the Mulee Aage Palace, built in the early 20th century. While in Male, stop for some pampering treatments at the Azmaara Spa. If you want to explore beautiful natural reefs, you should head over to Banana Reef on the North Male Atoll. This is a marine reserve area where you can swim with captivating manta rays. This atoll is also home to the HP Reef, where you can partake in an organized dive to experience the glorious coral reef colours.
When To Go
Since it is close to the Equator, South Male Atoll has only two seasons, which are wet and dry. The temperatures stay pretty much the same year-round with daytime highs of around 30°C (86°F) and nightly lows around 23°C (74°F). South Male Atoll is subject to monsoon weather during May through November, when the southwest monsoon rolls into the Maldives. The dry season from January through March brings the northeast monsoon, while April and December are changeover months and may have calmer weather. South Male Atoll receives quite a bit of sun due to its proximity to the Equator, but you should expect rain anytime no matter when you visit. It is a humid area, but the breeze keeps it comfortable.

Getting There
When flying into the Maldives, you will land at the Male International Airport, previously known as Hulhule Airport. From there, you can take a speedboat taxi or air taxi to your destination in South Male Atoll. Maldivian Air Taxi or Trans Maldivian Airways service the entire Maldives, and no trip is longer than 90 minutes. The planes fit up to 15 passengers. Tourists staying in the resorts at South Male Atoll use water taxis most of the time, which may be in the form of cruising yachts or fishing boats, depending on the luxuriousness of your lodgings.
