Putrajaya General Information

While Putrajaya may not attain the lofty standards of Oscar Niemeyer’s Brasília, Malaysia’s purpose-built administrative capital is a well worth a side trip from Kuala Lumpur. The bulk of the federal constitutional monarchy’s government apparatus left the congestion-heavy metropolis of 7.2 million people for Putrajaya in 1999. In 2001, Putrajaya was made a Federal Territory but happily, for tourists in the area, the planned-city unfurls some memorable attractions of note. Best of all, Putrajaya is a mere 30 km from the Petronas Twin Towers and Kuala Lumpur City Centre. ... Read more »

With some 65,000 people, Putrajaya is a core component of the “New Malaysia”, whose vision includes vast infrastructure improvements and colossal risk-reward knowledge economy ventures like Cyberjaya science park and the Multimedia Super Corridor. As a result, above and beyond the seat of national government, Putrajaya aims to be the heart of Malaysia’s version of Silicon Valley, California. Important points of interest in Putrajaya include Melawati National Palace, Istana Darul Ehsan, Putra Mosque, Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Mosque and Seri Wawasan Bridge. Outdoor recreation comes courtesy of Putrajaya Lake and Putrajaya Wetlands Park.

While Kuala Lumpur has a vibrant late-night scene, most notably in the Golden Triangle district, viable nightlife in Putrajaya has yet to take shape. As a result, the city’s reputation as a tame seat of government becomes most apparent after dark. If you want to drink and dance the night away, get your fill in KLCC.

Climate

Putrajaya has a tropical rainforest climate, with moderate to heavy rainfall and temperatures between 23°C and 33°C for the year.
