Maids Head Hotel
3.8 out of 5

Hotel was clean and comfortable, unfortunately our room was next to a very noisy extractor which stopped us from opening the window to allow the very hot room to cool down. The breakfast was excellent, but the prices for evening meals in the restaurant were very expensive, luckily there is a Wetherspoons next door with great meals at the right price. I would stay there again.

Our double room (standard) was tiny with barely any room to move. One side of the bed pushed close to the window making it a scramble over the other person to get out. Obviously no table etc on that side. The WC bathroom was clean modern and almost as big as the bedroom! Although the shower was unpredicatble and stopped mid-flow. Ventilation from opening windows was inadequate with only two small openners high up and not double glazed. the room was at the end of numerous corridors and we were woken by people at 3am walking past the door ( i think staff?). Staff in reception were inexperienced, scruffy and sloppy in their attitude. they alo do not push the Courtyard restaurant enough only asking if we were eating that night. they don't say that the courtyard restaurant is candle-lit and can be seenfrom the outside when the gates are open. we saw this later and thought it looked very appealing but did not realise it was the hotel restaurant.

Helpful, friendly staff; clean room, good dining, quality atmosphere generally, easy parking; very convenient for city access - loved the view of the illuminated Cathedral spire from the bedroom; very interesting historical architectural features and hotel history; no reservations in recommending it to anyone. Margaret & Ken E., Australia.

The breakfast is excellent. The decor needs to renewed as it is looking very jaded, but don't let that put you off. The position close to the cathedral is ideal. If arriving by car, get directions as we found the one-way system frustrating.

Very large twin room for my sole use. Bathroom as usual with this hotel looked a touch tired. Good breakfast. Hotel generally in need of a touch of paint - reception was being repainted as I checked out. Very handy central location and worth £70 or so per night but no more. Noisy central heating in room.

Clean, comfortable, convenient location, have stayed here several times and will do so again in the future providing the price is right, £70 maximum.

At first we were offered a smoking room which was not suitable, but there were no problems changing to a non-smokering room. Staff were friendly and our stay was enjoyable. The breakfast was very good as was food in the restaurant

The hotel is right ouside the Cathedral gates and is in an excellent location for all the sights of Norwich. There seem to be a number of new hotels being built in the city so I guess when supply outstrips demand, pricing will be more competitive.

The hotel is in an excellent central location and has its own car park. The staff were friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast offered a lot of variety and was served in an attractive area converted from a very old part of the building.

excellent location for exploring Norwich by foot. We parked the car in the Hotel's car park and didn't need to use it once. Although the standard room was fairly small, it more than made up for this with its character. Overall I would definately go back to this olde world hotel with its beams, creaking floors, and to drink once more in the oldest recorded bar in England. Small but with shedloads of character. Ps the buffet breakfast was excellent with lots of choice.
