Overall, the Esmeralda was a very good experience. Very clean, staff was professional and friendly, and the theme restaurants were good. The buffet was average at this hotel but the buffet at the Bahia Punta Cana was definitely much better. The Italian restaurant was a huge disappointment but the others (especially Don Pablo, Piscadore, and the Meson (Spannish) were the best)). Beach was very nice. The Steak House could use some improvement. The lobby bar was stocked with top shelf liquors... not the typical low quality booze found at most all-inclusives. Entertainment was average. If I were to return, I would make plans to stay at the Ambar all adult resort although the Esmeralda was small and generally quiet most of the time (except for the late night screamers who closed the bars down. Biggest downer during the week was the paid transportation (VIP) from the airport to the resort. Our bus had no reverse gear, no air conditioning, and no suspension which made the 30 min trip very uncomfortable

I have been to Punta Cana before. The landscaping and grounds were excellent. I have never been to a resort with such beautifully landscaped grounds. The Service was ok. I am very realistic when I travel when it comes to food (which was average) but service is the one thing that I do expect. The Language barrier was more significant than my last trip. The people also followed the "rules" more than most. What I mean by that is they found was to say no more than yes. Don't get me wrong we had a wonderful time but due to the language issue it was easier for them to say no than to try to figure out a way to understand what our request was. Our room was very clean and nice. We had a leak in our ceiling from a plumbing problem and they quickly fixed the issue and it did not hider our time at all. The entertainment was fun. We enjoyed it thoroughly. As stated before, the food was average but I go to the Dominican for the water and the view, not the steak! The resort is huge. We liked how quiet our area was, but we could walk to the entertainment and see some action. Overall it was a very nice trip but they did not wow me enough to say we are coming back asap. In the past we have also traveled to Mexico, Jamaica, and Bahamas.

Our first impression of the hotel was the best as possible. The place is really beautiful and the room is amazing (probably the best I've ever stayed). The pool is excellent and big enough for the number of guests (the pool was never crowded and there were always a place to lay around the pool). The beach is near from every room in the Esmeralda complex and very beautiful. The only con about the beach is that it is full with algae, what made the swimming in the sea not so pleasant. Everithing fine as a first impression... But then we faced the disorganization and staff's real interest with the guests: The resort is fine, but you don't have much to do in it beyond eat, sleep, swim, drink and lay in the sun. We wanted to do some extra activities and, beyond them being very expensive, there are a lot of different "touristic representatives" that try to sell and the possible craps they have. They approach you all the time in the poll or in the beach and they don't make clear for you which tours are available, and each different "touristic representatives" have different tours available. My advice here is that you go already knowing which tours you want to do, and do not buy any tours with haitians, only with dominicans. Haitians are much more unprepared, uneducated and unreliable. You may distinguish the dominicans and the haitians by the language they speak. Haitians usually speak an average spanish and has a kind of french as mother language. About the hotel staff, I can say that you get treated depending on how much you spend in tips. I'm not used to give tips and never had money with me, so I could sense the unfriendliness in most of the staff, mainly in the restaurants (ok, there were some exceptions). If you care about being well treated, open your wallet all the time for everyone and independent of the service quality. The food was fine, but nothing impressive. The best restaurant in my opinion is the Oliva, the worst is the "Las Olas BBQ". The buffet in esmeralda was usually regular and the food is much the same every day in the lunch. The all inclusive drinks are fine, but after some days the only thing I drank was wine and sparkling wine. I don't intend to come back to Punta Cana soon, and if I do, I'd try another hotel. If you don't care about sellers and "touristic representatives" annoying you all the time and don't intend to do some tours around, I'd recomend this hotel. Just don't forget the tips!
