Simple, chic and delightful! The newly restored boutique hotel has a nice blend of contemporary look and old charm. Facing a lovely stretch of beach, it also has a cosy pool, perfect, for a laid-back holiday. Good spread of local delights being offered and staffs are friendly. Love the elegant looking casuarina trees too! All in all, a nice beach getaway!

Lone Pine Hotel Penang
4 out of 5

The Lone Pine Hotel in Penang, Malaysia, is one of our favourite hotels, mainly because it has not really different to the lovely place we discovered when we first visited Penang in 1974. It's like travelling back in time. In more than 30 years, little has changed: the low, two-storey buildings with their wide verandahs, plantation shutters and large, airy rooms and the sweeping lawns dotted with deck chairs and shaded by stately pines. There's just more activity on the beach these days. The Lone Pine is in sharp contrast to the modern hotel towers that have sprung up nearby with their box-like rooms. It offers a real alternative to the boring uniformity of the modern, albeit at a room rate well above its competition.

Lone Pine Hotel Penang

We had a very relaxing time at Lone Pine. It has a very local and personalised feel about it as opposed to the large ''Shangri-la type'' hotels there which are far too impersonal and usually the same in any country! I would definitely go back to the Lone Pine for its friendliness and charm and I plan to tell everyone about it. We particularly liked the little farm they had and the chance to go horse riding. Every one was very very friendly.

An oasis of distinguished calm amidst the bustle of Batu Feringghi beach resorts. Would recommend it to anybody who appreciates tranquillity and personal attention. The same atmosphere is to be found in the restaurant although the quality of the food is below that standard.

Our family enjoyed ourselves very much in the very comfortable and serene hotel environment. The response to our request for extra bedding for our children was very good and thoughtful. The spread at the buffet breakfast was a good mix too. Will definitely be back again. Restaurant may wish to consider having a smoking section.

I truly enjoyed my stay here. This is my second time staying there and I will definitely come again. I surely would recommend my friends to stay here. In fact I''ve already recommended to them. However, pricing is a little on the steep....

Good location, facilities are good, pool is a good size. A quiet location, although very close to markets and restaurants. The staff are very helpful and able to assist you to arrange site seeing. The hotel is right on the beach, although I wouldn''t recommend swimming. There are plenty of activities to do (horse riding, jet skiing etc) if that is your thing. A very good hotel if you want to get away and relax.

This hotel was quite low key compared to the big hotel chains. This made it more relaxed and personal. It is quite like staying at a beach house in Australia, except you can order room service and a massage.

Lot of space and nice garden! The farm was popular for the kids. The only negative was that there is no pool for small kids.

Good. A nice, quiet place for a rest. However the menu during breakfast time can be changed to a wider spread.

The LONE PINE is SO LOVELY , please just book standard rooms, as then you have all the facilities but don''t pay high price. TWO seconds from the beach but with private patio and garden. REALLY IDEAL, my whole family stayed 5 NTS . Food was well priced and the staff so friendly. WILL BE BACK

This could be a very nice hotel if the owners completed some major renovations and redecoration. I would not rate the hotel as 4 star at the moment but with a new swimming pool, plus leisure facilities such as gym, sauna, etc, and a better restaurant it would be the ideal place for a relaxing, holiday.

Pretty basic accommodation. Location was good, and the hotel beach was maintained well. Unfortunately the sea water was not the cleanest, and had a dirty river emptying nearby. Not much facilities. Reception girls were very helpful and courteous.

My second stay in Penang. Walking along the beach, this was by far the quietest hotel in BF. One morning we were first to the large pool at 10.30 am. The staff are very friendly. Large, essentially comfortable rooms are let down by grubbiness. This was the case in the 1st floor luxury room and also (when we asked for a better room) in the suite. My wife wouldn''t let me walk on the carpet in the suites living room - it was so dirty! The breakfasts were good but the other food (we had two evening meals) was not. The paved area around the swimming pools was somewhat limited so that the sun chairs were on the surrounding dirt - which made for muddy feet every time you got out of the pool. If they can improve on the food and the overall cleanliness they would have a first rate hotel, overall we very much enjoyed our stay.

What a great hotel! Stumbled across it by accident and will never stay anywhere else in Penang. Even the cheapest room was great and offered a superb breakfast. Wonderful position on Batu Ferringhi.
