I have stayed in this hotel a few times and I have so far enjoyed my stay there. The staff is pretty friendly and helpful. The room is a good size for a hotel in NYC and it is pretty clean as far as I can tell. If however your room faces Jamaica Avanue, then you may have a problem with the constant noise as Jamaica Avenue is pretty busy at all times. The hotel is literally one to two minutes away from the subway. I have read some of the reviews saying the location is unsafe. I think some guests may get that impression because a lot of police cars pass right in front of the hotel, but, as I said, Jamaica Avenue is quite a busy Avenue so it makes sense police cars will drive through it. I have never felt unsafe and in danger in there when I went to order take out at night. My only complaint is the wifi connection. You do get free internet, but it is slow and could certainly be better. The hotel is about 40 minutes away from the city so if you have business in Manhattan, this hotel may not be for you. Considering the rates, the hotel is a great place to stay.

Good location if you want to take the subway into Manhattan. Neighborhood can be noisy at night. Complimentary breakfast was OK - they ran out of some things 1/2 hour before end of breakfast time.

The hotel is OK, but not recommended for single women because of the sketchy neighborhood. It was perfectly safe, but seems unsavory. However, neither my husband nor I had anything but good interactions with the locals. The subway is very convenient. The hotel itself looks newly remodelled. It was clean, much cleaner than my own home. :-) Our room was nice and quiet for the few hours per night we were there. We were up very early and returned very late. So mostly we were only there in the wee hours of the night. The breakfast was one of the worst hotel breakfasts that we have encountered on 3 continents. If you want donuts, there are three Dunkin Donuts within sight of the hotel. There are also many delicious delis, Wendy's, McDonalds, Subway, etc within a block or so of the hotel. Subway rides to Manhatten are time consuming, but if you are a tourist with plenty of time, it is just fine.

I was nervous at first about the location of this hotel in Queens, but needed to be close to the airport, so I took the risk because of the low price. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a very easy commute coming from JFK, and it wasn't nearly as scary as I thought it would be. The hotel is just two blocks from the subway/E train which goes directly to Manhattan with no transfers. The hotel was really clean and the staff was really friendly. Check-in and out was effortless. I would however not order from the Dominos advertised on the key card, it wasn't very good - the address appears to just be down the street but the food was cold and it took an hour and a half.

After searching, calling, reserving & paying for a king size bed room with free continental breakfast, I was horrified to find this hotel was nothing it advertised itself to be. 5-6 free parking spots for all the hotel guests- we were instructed to park on the side walk in front. Lobby had torn leather old furniture although it boasts of being a newer hotel. Elevator had those moving sheets hanging & they were even dirty. I was put on 5th floor directly across from loud elevator. Once on the floor, I was struck with disgust at the stained dirty carpet. NOT AN ISOLATED STAIN BUT THE WHOLE FLOOR. My room had king size bed with a dirty bedspread, broken & dirty chair & the smell of urine & foreign food permiated the floor. This was the exact opposite of what I wanted & what I thought I had paid for. Hotel is perfect for johns & prostitutes. Didnt stay one night however the hotel is claiming I did because they do not want to give me a refund. [...]

I would not recommend a room on the first floor, I heard the stairway door slam early morning "breakfast time". Breakfast was great, but the breakfast area was really small. The subway was close by, but area could be scary at night. close by a Mcdonalds, Wendys, Dunkins and subway. I did have a chance to roam the area and there are a lot of homeless ppl hanging on street corners. overall hotel was very neat and clean staff was friendly. If you want to visit the city and save money, I would reccomend.

I was pleasantly surprised that the Clarion Hotel Jamaica was a great place to stay. Our room was clean, despite (i'm guessing) my error in booking a smoking room, it was a very convenient location with regards to the subway as well as other transportation to JFK. The staff was beyond my very fastidious expectations. They were all friendly and helpful beyond belief. I would highly recommend this hotel for your money, you get your value and then some. If I have to note anything that didn't work for me...it was the "breakfast". The supplies ran out waaay before the breakfast end time. So we who arrived at close to the end time, were left with basically nothing. That toaster...needs...to...be replaced...it didn't work. Breakfast was very badly supervised. Otherwise, I'd recommend go for breakfast earlier, you won't get stuck like we did. We will be back....loved the location and loooved the staff.

The room is clean. Because of not facing the street it's not so noisy. Breakfast is complimentary. Near to the subway station. Overall good experience.

Hotel looks better at website than it really is. Location next to metro station, but also next to main road. Hotel is a little bit old-fashioned. Breakfast is very simple. Personnel is kind and helpful, though. It takes almost 45 minutes to reach the city center.

The best thing about the hotel is location, given the price. You can see it from Jamaica Van Wyck (not blvd) on the E. Reading some of the comments on [other website] made me slightly nervous but it turned out to be okay. Bear in mind that there are no restaurants nearby (only fast food and dodgy chinese). The bathroom was new and very clean so a big plus there. I was with my mum so a little concerned about safety but it was fine. All in all, I got what I paid for given that it's NY.
