Location
Located a twenty-minute scenic drive from Dunedin city in the grounds of the famous Larnach Castle. One of the things to see in Dunedin area is the Royal Albatross Yellow-eyed Pengiun colony, which is 30 minutes drive. Visitors can enjoy a tour of the Castle, or admire the magnificent gardens, which Margaret Barker has been working hard devloping for the last 30 years.
Rooms
Rooms are individually decorated in a themed period style, to complement the Castle. Each has a splendid view of the ocean 1000 feet below. All rooms are ensuite and have heater, phone, radio alarm, tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and television.
Restaurant
The guests can dine in the Castle Dining room, bookings are essential. Guests can dine in the Castle's dining room that specialises in Scottish cuisine, amongst other dishes.
General
The guests get a complimentary Castle tour during the opening hours. This is a very special place, with much history, with magnificent Antiques throughout. The Barker family - who own the Castle - live here, and open it daily to visitors. The gardens are also a work of art. Unforgetable experience, a must for visitors to Dunedin and this area. SE0207

Wonderfull service and such a lovely place to stay.I will return after I have spread the word and bring new guests with me.Unique and a must do for the young and old.

Lanarch Castle was an amazing experience although we were in the Goldrush Room with a wagon for a bed. Under normal circumstances this would have been quite a novelty but was difficult with a fractured arm (staff did try to move us but didn't have another room). Banquet dinner in the castle was wonderful and the breakfasts were great.

Disappointed that you are lead to believe that you are staying in the castle and you are not. Very over priced rooms. Too many rules that spoils the experience. The dinner was ok but the rules on ordering the meal by 5:00 pm and the rushed manner in which we were exited out of the castle by 10:00 pm after eating and the narrated history of the castle between courses was boring, rushed and not necessary for all to hear. Could be better (far better) would not recommend this to any other people. Dinner experience over priced and not worth the money. Overall experience ridiculously over priced and disappointing. Glad we did not stay an extra night as originally planned

An excellent accommodation location with friendly efficient staff. Staying in a suite and having dinner at Larnach Castle was a really enjoyable and fun experience.

Premium room (Queen Victoria). Fun venue- must join in one Banquet Evening- great banter. Value fair as it includes entrance to “castle” and grounds. Good breakfasts. Don’t expect your room to be in the actual castle though- more motel style with added character in lodge or even the stables.
