Room was on the small side, the lobby was beautiful and charming, as well as the pool area... The staff was helpful, and the free WiFi is nice, There is a really neat Bar downstairs, and another restaurant adjacent, called the red fox, very charming place. the staff made the room up as soon as we stepped out, and we returned to a nice clean room. I like that. Too bad there was a private pool party that was not mentioned upon booking, so I never got to use the pool, the one thing I was looking forward too. I'd probably stay here again, but maybe in a larger room.

The hotel is conveniently located for shopping, beaches, Balboa park and other attractions. The rooms and beds were comfortable and clean. The internet did NOT work and when we approached the staff they just threw their hands up and said "sorry its out of our control". The website said they have a continental breakfast to include bagels and waffles.... In fact, all that was ever offered was cheese, a small assortment of fruit, and frozen croissants or banana muffins which were never fresh or completely thawed.

I loved the decor and style of the hotel I just wish that the website would have told me that the hotel was under renovation other than that everything was good.

At first I thought the place was gonna be a dump because of the old reviews I read but it turned out to be very nice and fluffy. The bed was nice, the room was comfortable....the only thing is the water pressure kept changing a bit

Would highly recommend for comfort and price combination. A great remodel. There has been some quality work done on the remodeling, which was still going on while we were there. It is older but comfortable with attention paid to the things that mattered to us, the bed, bathroom and air conditioner.

The Hotel was under renovation in some areas, but the overall ambiance was idyllic. It was like stepping back in time, can't wait till they get done with the upgrades. The room could use a mini refrigerator and perhaps a microwave, but overall, it was pleasant stay. Worth returning to.

All of it was very enjoyable from the Customer Service to the Private Parking. The Hotel has a nice Retro Seek style in their room decor. The entire Hotel has a sort of 60's look, i loved it!

Our Thanksgiving was basically ruined by the airlines. The ticket was supposed to be for my wife. The airlines would not accept her. I could not fly to San Diego. So, no one was in San Diego. I'm sure the hotel is appropriate. But who knows. The airlines cost me over $500.00 for a Thanksgiving my wife never had. American Airlines.

This hotel had frindly staff and other guests. The building surrounded an Olympic size pool where I spent most of my time.

The good: Great onsite bar and resturant. Clean quiet room. Very close to MCRD for Marine Graduation. Free parking big enough for a full size 4 door truck. Very cool ethiopian resturant close by. The Bad: The room phone was dead, and never fixed. No ice machine on the 2nd floor. it was outside. No closet, hangers or hook in the room.. kind of weird. The wireless internet was so slow as to be useless.

I loved the Lafayette. It has a great aesthetic, vintage without being kitchy, yet modern too. Great location near Balboa park, North Park. So much better than staying at at chain hotel or something overpriced. I would definitely stay here again,

Staff was not helpful at check in, just stared at me. Unable to use pool due to DJ party with locals laying out and drinking. Room had no refrigerator, one trash can, no blow dryer. Had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs since their elevator was broken. No bell boy for assistance in carring our belongings.
