This hotel is very close to Baile Hill, along the walls around York, so it's an excellent location for exploring the wall. Dinner and breakfast were both great - very nice meals and the service was excellent. The room was neat and clean and very spacious. Finding how to get into the car park was a little tricky, as the hotel reception isn't in the same street as the listed address. Great service at reception.

We were very happy with this charcter hotel within easy walking distance of York City centre and railway station. Excellent breakfasts and friendly staff. Not the Ritz but excellent value for money. Would stay again.

The room was awful, if you have to look out on an ashfelt roof and brick wall then they could have picked up the broken TV aerial. We asked to be moved but were told all rooms were the same!!!! The shower room left a lot to be desired. On a possitive note, the breakfast was acceptable and the dining room staff attentive

A cheerful, 'no-nonsense' hotel with extremeley friendly and helpful staff. Located in a most interesting setting with the older part having previously been historic alms houses, this hotel is brilliantly sited for the city centre and only about 25 mins walk from York racecourse. A little difficult to find due to the one way system but with tight but sufficient parking. Rooms are adequate if small and a little old fashioned. Very good breakfast. I would definitely go again.

Excellant location with exceptionally helpful staff. A good breakfast was included within the price. The room was clean, tidy and larger than expected. I would recommend this hotel very highly.

A very pleasant surprise. For the price I expected a much more basic hotel. Very nice nature of hotel, a change from the usual. Great location, easy walk from station and all main sights. Superb all you can eat breakfast/buffet. Staff very friendly. Gym is superb, a full fitness centre. Only negative comment is could do with a lick of paint here and there but dont be put off by that. Would definitely recommend and stay here again.

Wow ! Well located in edge of historical centre of York, an easy walk into/around town. Street front rooms suffer a little from road noise but otherwise a nice hotel.

Did not like staying in separate building to hotel, very cold when having to walk across to main reception area for breakfast and evening meal and also badly lit, decor was drab lounge area very cold had to go back into room to get warm although bathroom in room was freezing, small towel rail was only form of heating. chairs in lounge were loose on some of the arms, dining room carpet was disgusting

We were rather apprehensive about staying at this hotel after reading a number of previous guest comments. However, we were delighted to discover our fears were completely unfounded. The setting was lovely, very peaceful yet convenient for the city centre, the room was very clean and comfortable and the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

I found the hotel to be an unusual but really lovely high quality and relaxing place in the heart of bustling York. I would recommend it to anyone but would prefer to keep it a secret just in case I wish to revisit and find it fully booked.

The hotel is in a good quiet location within city walls and walking distance from train station and city centre. The hotel's interior's need to be renovated. The carpets from reception through to the rooms are awful. The stairwell actually smells of rising damp, and well worn down. The bedrooms are adequate and a good size but furnished like a bad 1980 fitout and not worth the money asked. The tv reception was apalling. The bed was sagging and hurt my partner's bad back. The ensuite walls are covered with an imitation pink marble hardboard panels, floor was same board but imitation timber. I was grateful that the ensuite flooring was not carpet. The shower over the bath was absolutely wonderful with plenty of good pressure and hot water. The bedroom floor creaked in many places, the neighbouring room's door lock was difficult to open and a noisy event each time they opened it. The younger staff were pleasant, while the older few rarely made eye contact and abrupt when engaged.
