You definitely get the feel that its upscale with the luxurious rooms, decor and snobby staff. Though, to be fair, the bartender at complimentary cocktail hour was very friendly - which was opposite of the lobby staff. I booked online and got a deal, but they rub it in by putting you in a back alley-view room even though the place wasn't full - and where the gargage pickup woke me up at 3 AM.

Location is ideal for walking around downtown. Continental breakfast was great! Cocktail parties plus snacks were terrific. All that and free wifi as well. You don't get that at the higher priced hotels. This was a great deal for the price. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Much better than I expected. The hotel is clean; the design is contemporary; and the internet is free. A complementary breakfast and a 5:30 happy hour mini-party add a nice touch.

This hotel is impressive looking the minute you see it. It is right in the middle of, what I understand to be, the up and coming part of downtown. We walked to the shopping district, some local attractions, and to all of the wonderful local restaurants and bars. So as far as location, it is great. I chose this hotel for this reason, and some of the extras, which included a two hour free happy hour. I had the impression this was going to take place in a lounge. It did not. It took place a meeting room half-heartedly converted into a lounge. In short, it was a joke. It was packed with guest like me, looking for a few complimentary drinks. The house drink was super sweet, and the top shelf liquor that was promised did not include either of the liquors that my friends and I drink....which I don't necessarily consider top shelf...so what gives? And this isn't the worst part...the snacks were also half-hearted...and included a cheese that made the room smell like flatulence. I am not kidding....every guest I spoke with, or laughed with, I should say, agreed. But to end this on a high note, I must say that the staff is extraordinary, and the rooms are clean, comfortable, and if you happen to get the larger of the rooms, it is spacey. The complimentary breakfast isn't too bad either. I would go back, especially at the price I got, which saved me $100.00 per night on my stay. (Which allowed for an indulgent, and simply amazing, dinner at the steak house next door.) Just skip the happy hour and bring your own drinks and snacks..that way you won't be disappointed at all.

We stayed for a couple's weekend getaway. The location is great for many downtown restaurants and amenities. The hotel is lovely and nicely run. Included breakfast was conveniently in the elevator lobby of each floor and had a good selection.

At this time a HD TV should be included in a hotel that aims to 4 stars

Love this hotel for the extras like the free evening cocktail reception and continental breakfast in the morning and generally cool design. Given that they're close to, but not on, Michigan Ave, they seem to try a little bit harder to make your dollar go farther. It's not an inexpensive hotel by any matter of means, but if you're willing to treat yourself a bit, the Amalfi goes further than most.

The hotel location was great; walking distance to State Street, Michigan Avenue, shopping and restaurants. Also enjoyed the complimentary cocktails/snacks. The continental breakfast provided on each floor was also very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful. Price was typical of downtown Chicago, perhaps less than many hotels in that area. Very small lobby area so could not sit and lounge in that area. Would definitely stay there again!

The staff was not friendly or helpful. They gave us a room that someone was already in! We had to go back down to the desk to get another room, and asked for a better view. The new room had a view of a brick wall and an alley. We heard very loud club music until 4am!

This was suppose to be the perfect hotel for our vacation. Second night after a full day of enjoying the city we could not get back into our room as lock on door was inoperable. Hotel offered to put us up in another room minus our belongings until maintenance came in the next day? We ended sleeping in our clothes with out benefit of personal amenities. Night Manager was kind enough to furnish us with sandwichs from local diner and would try to see what could be done as far as the loss of a full day's rate. When we were able to get back into our room we were moved to another where we also encountered door lock problems but not as severe. When we came back the following day from outings, room was open and we thought we had been burgularized. Fortunately nothing was taken but it was scary for that to have occured. Staff felt we should just understand the problems and get over it. I had my grand daughter with me and was of course very protective of her safety. I feel I was not the cause of the problems and the hotel should reimburse for the lost night of a hotel room with belongings, etc.

Great staff. Loved the breakfast on each floor. But, it was really, really, really loud late at night / early morning - there is a bar nearby that kept us up for many hours on Friday and Saturday night.

The location of this hotel could not be any better if you are looking for a base to explore the city from. Right across the street is one of the best steak houses in the city, and you are a few block walk from the great shopping on Michigan Ave. For the price we paid, we got a nice continental breakfast (each floor has their own) and a very beautiful room. I would certainly stay there again if I return to Chicago.

Clean & very comfortable rooms (small but not a problem) & clean common areas; very friendly staff (called "Experience Designers") who were helpful and recommended Catch 35 for dinner & made the reservation (a reasonably priced splurge & well worth it). Almafi's website was a useful tool for planning what we'd do in Chicago and it was close to everything we wanted to see & about 3 blocks from the Blue Line (train) so getting to & from the airport was a breeze (and inexpensive – less than $5 round trip). Good gym space.
