If your looking for a good price no thrills safe place to stay Kauai Sands Hotel is the right choice. Its an older hotel but the staff is nice with clean rooms.

This is a hotel that needs love, but the location makes up for any of the long overdue decor updating. The beach out front is quiet and private. The rooms are clean, no frills. The hotel is midway between the north and south shore, so getting anywhere on the island was a breeze. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. A very good dollar value. I would stay there again in a heartbeat- had a fabulous time!!

what can be said about the perfect get-away...the location is right on the beach (where we were married), staff were THE BEST, clean room and facility, location was perefect to visit everything on the island. the ONLY thing that would have made this hotel better would have been to have a restaraunt at the hotel (but places to eat were as close as a 5 minute walk next door) we will be back for anniversary celebrations !!!

The hotel was good enough for our needs. It is in the process of being sold and has not been kept up as well as could be. The staff was always available and helpful.

The staff was friendly and helpful...but the place is pretty tired and run down. No amenities. The snack bar area was severely lackiing. Would have appreciated a cup of coffee! The beach chairs were falling apart and dirty. The beach area covered in branches and leaves. I found myself going to the hotel next door to sit in their lobby to enjoy their gardens and ambience instead of staying at the Kauai Sands. Slept well and enjoyed the lower rate, but think they need a bit of a spruce up!

Great Location. For one or two nights it's great value. It's a vintage hotel (70's style), but very clean.

An older hotel on the decline - a great place to sleep for a reasonable price. Everybody staying here was very nice and the rooms are clean. The staff is friendly.

Great location and really quiet at night. Short walks to great gift shopping, restaurants and grocery stores. The hotel's decor is 70's dated but I prefer the older places because I like the character. Friendly staff, good security, and lovely landscaping. The Sands is also run be Hawaiians. I avoid the corporate monsters. I will stay there again when I'm back on Kaua'i.

Perfect location and great value. We were right on the beach and the pool had two pools for the kids.

The room itself was large and clean, but wallpaper and mouldings were dingy. It's conveniently located right next to the Coconut Marketplace, a block from Monico's (an excellent casual mexican restaurant), and has good beach frontage. All rooms have refrigerators and rather noisy wall a/c's, but no coffee makers except in the studios with .kitchenettes. Coffee is a must for us so we bought a microwave for $10 at a thrift store to heat water for our french press (and it was handy for heating up restaurant leftovers too). All in all, good value for the price.

Room OK, ocean adjacent, but run down. But on economy budget where no time spent at hotel, worked out well.

For the price, this hotel was more than adequate. After all, all you need a hotel room for, especially in Hawaii,is sleeping. The rooms were not fancy and outdated, as far as decore, but clean. The beach access was great. There was a perfect spot just yards from the hotel for the kids to practice snorkling in calm water. It was also next to Coconut Market place with shopping, food, and most importantly shaved ice. ;)

The Kauai Sands is an older beach front resort that is within walking distance to shops, bars and resturants. Great value. The hotel has a faded glory look about it, the closed beach front reasturant you can sit in and enjoy the beach front view, 2 pools, a nice open air lobby, laundry facility for guests and security. The rooms are clean and comfortable and wifi available for a price. We paid $59.95 a night in 06/2011. We shopped around, read reviews and we were happy with our pick Kauai Sands.

I had a fantastic stay at this property. The location is fabulous and the rooms are large and comfortable. Nice old style. Room serviced each day but vacuuming hit and miss. Front service desk during day was professional no Aloha though. The restaurant is closed but there is a laundry and on-site parking etc, all good. Would stay here again no problems.

As a hotel supervisor in Reno, Nevada, I was very impressed with the value of my stay. Room was clean and the hotel was right on the beach. Although the water there was not reccommended to go into. Overall, if you're just looking for a basic place to stay without all the frills, this is the place.

Very affordable with a nice location right on the beach. Hotel is aging, but has an "old Hawaii" charm. The only complaint would be that I did see a few small roaches in the bathroom, but I would still stay here again if on a budget.

I would def stay here again. They are located in the middle of the east coast of the island, so that is convenient if you want to explore both the north and south sides. They charge for local calls, and the front desk wasn't very polite if you called with questions. But for the price, definitely worth it. It's def on the lower end of the hotels (we even saw a door falling apart and stuffed with gauze), but the price and location are right on for the frugal community. Hope this helps.

The hotel decor is straight out of the 70's, nothing has been remodeled. However, it is very clean and the grounds are perfectly manicured. The location is good since it's in the middle of the main road. We drove to every place while we were there and it was easy because of our home base. If you are on a budget it's worth the $55 a night.
