Office building in Odaiba hotels

Odaiba

Odaiba is a large man-made island that is one of the most popular shopping and entertainment districts in Tokyo. Odaiba is known for its ultramodern buildings, many of which seemingly push the boundaries of artistic innovation to the point of absurdity. Odaiba was originally constructed in the late nineteenth century, but modern development did not really begin until the 1980s when Odaiba was to be a showcase for futuristic living. Odaiba Top 3

  • Take a trip back in time at the Edo-inspired Oedo-Onsen-Monogatari—Tokyo’s largest artificial hot spring complex—where the relaxing bathtubs will melt away both the dirt beneath your fingernails and all of your troublesome worries.
  • Walk the romantic boardwalk of Odaiba Marine Park, where strolling couples can be found enjoying one of the best spots in Tokyo to watch the sun set.
  • Play games under the thundering din and flashing lights of hundreds of arcade games at Joyopolis, a massive game centre where Tokyo’s teens flock to conquer virtual worlds.

Getting There

Odaiba is connected to Tokyo by many modes of the public transportation. The most entertaining way to get there is by the Yurikamome, a driverless elevated train that crosses the famous Rainbow Bridge as it winds around a 270-degree loop, affording amazing views of Tokyo Bay. There are also buses that will take you directly to Odaiba from the Tokyo station. Once on Odaiba, the free Bay Shuttle Bus runs a circular route within the island, stopping at the island’s main attractions along the way. Brave pedestrians can actually walk across Rainbow Bridge, but the air is heavy with car exhaust.
