If you take a trip to Japan, visiting the city of Sendai would not disappoint you. Regardless of whether you are an avid sightseer, culture buff or foodie, you will be able to entertain yourself for days in this beautiful and unique city, known as the‘City of Trees’. Sendai is probably one of the lushest and green metro areas you will encounter. Most visitors check out the Aoba Castleruins and Ōsaki Hachimanshrine, a treasured Japanese landmark and the site of the annual Donto-sai Festival. The Museum of the Forest of Depths of the Earth offers exhibits of Stone Age artefacts. If you like nature, you should visit the gardens at Rinnoji Templeto see the azalea trees in bloom, as well as the Sendai Yagiyama Zoological Park. If you travel to Sendai during August, you can experience Tanabata,which is an extravagant local festival for which the locals dress up the tree-lined streets. When to Go
Sendai has very distinct seasons that are similar to a lot of areas in Europe and North America. Unlike many Japanese cities, Sendai is not subject to extreme temperatures or typhoons. The area experiences 60-83 per cent humidity year-round. Summers are warm and wet with 9-13 cm (3.5-5.1 in) of rain monthly. Fall in Sendai has the most rain with 17-20 cm (6.7-7.9 in) monthly accumulation, tapering off in October. The average high temperature in fall is around 15-17 degrees C (59-63 degrees F). Winters can be chilly with temperatures slightly below 0°C (32°F), but they are relatively dry compared to the other seasons. It usually snows from December through March, averaging around 9-10 cm (3.5-3.9 in) per month. The most pleasant and least rainy time of year is from April through June.

Getting There
Sendai Airport handles domestic flights from most major Japanese cities, so international travellers will likely first stop in Osaka, Okinawa, Hiroshima, Sapporo or Nagoya, and a few others. It also offers a few international flights to cities in China, South Korea and Taiwan. There are several high-speed train lines in Japan that stop in Sendai as well. Most of the routes originate in Tokyo and arrive at Sendai in under two hours. Fares range from around 11,000 ¥ to almost 20,000 ¥. If you want a cheaper transportation from Tokyo or other major Japanese cities, you should take one of the long-distance buses. The trips mostly cost somewhere between 6,200 and 6,500 ¥ and take five to six hours, although voyages from Osaka or Kyoto cost around 12,000 ¥ and take ten to 12 hours.
