Ryozen Kanon
The Ryozen Kanon is a giant concrete-and-steel Buddha constructed in 1955 by Hiroshuke Ishikawa, in Kyoto. The aim of the shrine was to honour the more than one million Japanese soldiers who perished during World War II. The shrine underneath the statue is composed of the images of thunder and wind (Bodhisattva Ekādaśamukha). There are four services held daily at the shrine to honour the fallen soldiers. Getting There
One of the most convenient methods of getting to Ryozen Kanon, in Kyoto, from Tokyo is by using the bullet train. It takes about one hour and 14 minutes. Once in the city, you can travel to the destination either by bus or train. Many people prefer using the train. Alight at the Shijo station when travelling by train. Ryozen Kanon is a 20-minute walk from the Shijo station. The subway is another potential means of transport, but you will need to take a taxi or bus to the destination once you alight.
