Famous for rain, Kanazawa proves that always carrying an umbrella is best. Winters are very cold due to the city’s location in Snow Country. This area along the Japan Sea Coast of Honshu has blustery Siberian winds that are capable of dropping large amounts of snow. The city actually has sprinklers in the sides of the streets that help to wash away the snow. Getting There
The nearest airport that serves Kanazawa is Komatsu Airport. The Komatsu Airport serves international flights from cities like Seoul and Shanghai. There are many domestic as well as international flights that come in from all over to this airport. Connections at the Tokyo, Haneda and Narita airports are easily made, and bring visitors to Kanazawa often.
Kanazawa’s train station, a futuristic wonder, integrates traditional woods with modern glass and steel to create an efficient train system. The station is located on the Hokuriku Line of the West Japan Railway.
Several bus companies have routes that run from Tokyo to Kanazawa. Many of the routes have varied schedules like the JR Bus, which runs only two daily and two nightly buses. More buses are added on the weekends and holidays.
