We always stay at the James Cook when in Wellington. It is very convenient to the central city, therefore you have easy access to shops, dining and sightseeing. The staff are particularly helpful and we were impressed with how staff dealt with a small problem we had. (Our internet booking was inclusive of breakfast, but unfortunately this had not been relayed to the reception/dining staff). This was easily resolved, plus we received complimentary parking. This ensured that we left with a good impression.

Overall we had a good experience with great service, nice room decor and very comfy bed. Only negative was the extremely thin walls and very loud bangy doors so we heard every nearby guest arrive back for the night, the bathrooms and then the early risers in the morning.

Ease to access from Motoway, and lifts to Lambton Quay. short walk to K & S and the event centre /Te Papa. convienent valet parking service, which you need to use ( 24 hr rate) against self parking cost of $2 hr overnight. Best buffet breakfast in NZ

Central location, pleasant staff, good room. Easy access to shopping, handy buses on Lambton Quay to get to Te Papa and Oriental Parade and airport. Very good value for the weekend special we got. Only problem I found with the room was lack of individual reading lights by the bed.

Our room was ready on arrival. We had a very enjoyable stay at the James Cook. Down the lift to the Quay, and all the shops are close by.

staff very friendly & helpful. Room large and amenities very good. great breakfast. the Whitby dining room was perfect and peaceful. Bit noisy on Saturday evening but all part of the fun. A few minor things need to be repaired in the room especially the tissue box which kept falling out of the wall. location is really good with entrances on bothe Lampton Quay and The Terrace although I didn't use the parking area It was conveniently close to reception.

My husband, teenage son and I stayed here while attending a conference in the TSB Arena. The location was excellent as it was only a short walk to the Arena from here. We really only needed a place to sleep as we spent most of our time at the conference and this place was ideal for what we were after. We got an awesome full breakfast deal when booking which was amazing value and the service and selection available were of a very high standard. Will definitely stay here again.

The second time we have stayed here. The rate was very good considering the town was probably booked out for the All Blacks game. The hotel is an older style but well looked after. Clean and tidy and friendly staff.

The James Cook is a dependable location for visits focussed on Central Welington. Exits to both central Lambton Quay as well as on to the Terrace so the guests can access shopping, restaurtants and work t easily

A once great hotel starting to get tired. The food was poor, the service average, bathroom worn, no button on the shower and to cap it off a 4 star hotel charging a 1.5% credit card fee.

Always a pleasure to enter the JCH, and rooms are spacious and the decor is quietly luxurious and welcoming. Staff are always helpful.

Good location if driving as directly opposite motorway off-ramp. Within easy walking distance of main shopping areas, Te Papa, etc.. Breakfast very enjoyable but at top of price range for a full buffet breakfast.

Repeat visit, great location, good rooms and upgraded to lounge level. Great Chai Latte's in Lobby. Very happy, booked the Boss in too. Lounge Level included Internet, 2 of us - no problems over 2 nights $0.00; the Boss charged for excess use, claimed 500+MB used in LESS than one day (emails similar to mine), Left the Boss fuming and refusing to go back. Reivernet Internet - reflects on the Hotels that use it (have had issues with it before in different hotels).

Excellent and convenient location to CBD with exceptionally easy car access from Motorway when travelling south. Parking option a big saving but always a little disappointed that this is an additional fee. My Terrace Room, with two double beds, was very comfortably, contained all amenities required and clean. Lift access down to Lampton Quay makes the James Cook a good location for business/shopping trips

Poor weather for the weekend but the undercover parking and the easy access to the shopping area downtown was great. The room was luxurious and had everything you could need. All the facilities were available, the service was top class and the food was very nice. A thoroughly good weekend and we enjoyed the rugby on both days we were there.
