Venerable Verona
Verona is famous around the world as the setting of Shakespeare’s tragic romance Romeo and Juliet. But there’s so much more to this northern Italian city than obsessive teen love. ... Read more »
You’ll find plenty of ways to spend your days in Verona, but nightfall is when your real options begin. After a long day of hunting designer labels on the Via Mazzini, take a leisurely stroll around the Piazza Bra, where every restaurateur will swear his gelato is the best. If you’re less commercially minded, venture behind the Roman Amphitheatre, where you can scale Verona’s tallest hill and see the Austrian Barracks. The finishing touch they put on the region’s best sunset is a sight to rival even Leo DiCaprio in a suit of armour…

Verona Events
The international Festival del Cinema Sentimentale e Melo comes to Verona in March and April, bringing some old favourites alongside new releases.
Who said you can’t drink before noon? April’s Vinitaly is Verona’s biggest and best wine festival. The best in local and international winemakers showcase their goods.
The Opera Season runs from June to August and attracts visitors and acts from around the globe.
A mix of religious rite of passage and music festival, the quirky Festa dei Cimbri a Camposilvano shows the weird side of Verona in July.
The town square is home to a live action version of the Nativity Scene in December. Each year brings something new to the story.
When To Go
Below-freezing temperatures are not uncommon from November to January, so dress warmly.
July and August are easily the warmest months, when the temperatures nudge 30°C (86°F).
If you can’t stand crowds, avoid summer – it’s vibrant, but congested.
Getting Around
Walking is the best way to visit the nooks and crannies that make Verona wonderful.
Many hotels are located in the suburbs, so be sure to double-check the bus timetable before venturing to the more popular attractions.
A rental car is a good option if your stay in Verona is more of a pit stop.
